Lips Do Not Kiss

Lips Do Not Kiss

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

These lips are mine, and they do not kiss.

"

I vowed to myself

that my heart was no one’s.

I placed it away on a shelf

where it couldn’t be touched.

What promises were made

are those strict promises

that, in the dusty light, did fade

to remnants of the past.

I vowed

a scorching vow

to once I never bowed

to, but I broke.

These lips do not kiss.

not for what they long for

or for what they miss.

My lips are mine.

The black tears trail

down pale, lonely cheeks.

‘Twas myself I did fail

in the very end..

My lips do not kiss

for what they long for.

Indeed, they do miss

blissful tender affection.

But these lips are mine,

and they do not kiss.

The story behind this is somewhat personal, so I'm going to keep that little tidbit to myself. xD Still, enjoy, dear readers.
