Lost Light

Lost Light

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

You are lost to me.

"

Hurts like a wound,

seething and burning

inside of me.

Boiling and ripping,

ebbing and flowing,

a tide of poison.

A tide of nothing.

The salt of tears

touches a small fraction

and bites a huger portion

from my soul.

I can’t keep these thoughts

from protruding their way

into my head.

The memory

makes its mark

upon my soul.

Everything reminds me.

The wound’s stitches

are torn out and

have me bleeding,

the blood rippling up

seething like poison.

It hurts.

Oh God, it hurts.

Escape the pain.

I can’t escape the pain

no matter how

hard I try.

I thought these feelings

were long gone,

healed and disappeared.

But my soul

has proved me wrong.

Your light

has been lost,

a most dazzling,

wondrous light.

Why did you

leave me?

Why did your light

suddenly extinguish?

Leave me in

the passing.

You’ll find me

where old wounds

blister and burn,

where ancient memories

come to life.

Where I only had you.

Author's Note

E.V. Black
For the first time in my life two years ago, I lost someone I knew. He wasn't a close friend but he was a friend to me. He was kind and whimsical and the pure definition of life. Unfortunately, his life was stolen by H1N1 along with a few other complications that arose in him. He died in November and, following, were literally a sea of people who mourned his passing.

Now, may he be remembered within this poem I wrote for him. His name was Walter Brooks and he was a wonderful soul full of life.
