Spoken Words

Spoken Words

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

The power of words.

"

I was thinking

in the relaxing evening,

as soft music showered

upon my ears,

about the power of words.

A friend pried herself

from our once-ship

and then bitterly spoke words

that tore through my mind.

Inside I lamented

the faults she ungraciously

pointed out.

Those words were idle,

wrought in the fury

of a moment.

I knew them not to be true.

Then, I realized

she knew nothing about me.

She knew not my true mind,

nor my deepest desires.

But that didn’t stop

the words from hurting.

Author's Note

E.V. Black
I have encountered various people who believe that words have absolutely no power. Only action. In a way, it's true, but then it's not true. Words strike a blow to our very souls, leaving us internally wounded and bleeding.

Dear readers, words do have power. Never let anyone tell you otherwise. They are the most powerful things in the world.
