One and the Same

One and the Same

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

You and me are one.

"

I watched your loneliness.

It tore our souls apart.

I would hug you if I could.

Your pain brings pain

into my own body,

reciprocating every moment

of the day in all my memories.

I was a different person

all that time ago.

Yet, you and I?

Past and present?

We are one and the same.

I know who you were

and who you craved

to become.

Two sides of the same coin,

we shall both remain.

Sun and moon,

light and dark.

Even if one reigns supreme,

the other will dominantly observe.

I love you.

You and me are one.

Author's Note

E.V. Black
I know I will never be able to forget my past self. She was too full of pain not to. In the bad times, she surfaces and reminds me of what I used to be. This poem notes that vivid change from one thing to another, yet she still is very much apart of me as I am of her.
