At the End

At the End

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

I didn't expect it to turn out this way.

"

I didn't expect it

to turn out this way.

I didn't think that

it would be here so soon.

Happy until the final blow

of life

hit me in the side.

I opened my eyes

to see flames

licking at my flesh

and burning me.

I was drowning in pain.

Until the end

I didn't think

that I would be

haunted.

Now the dark whispers

of cursed souls

float all around me.

I can't find my way

out now in here.

The end has come,

and there's nothing

I can do.

Weigh life's worth in

the palm of your hand.

What do you find?

Apocalypse all around me,

killing me even more.

Everything burns.

I feel the fire.

I hate it.

Make it end.

End of the road,

whispers say to me.

I know.

The end of life

as we know it.

Until the end,

I didn't think

that my past

sins and mistakes

would come back to

haunt me.

I thought wrong.

And now I live when I'm

supposed to be dead.

At the end,

I'm nothing.

Author's Note

E.V. Black
Some poems I can't remember exactly what I wrote them for. This one is just one of those many. Rereading these words for the first time in a long time, I can see that I was in emotional pain. I wish I could just go back and hug myself.
