Humanity

Humanity

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

Here we lie in our humanity

"

A flower closed off

from the light

and nothing can reach it.

A precious jewel

to never shine in the dark.

Breath to be taken

and never replaced.

It is only seen when

blood is spilt,

when bones are broken,

when a life is taken.

Eyes only shine with tears

when humanity is revealed.

The mask of immaturity

disappears and our

human sides show.

We are never as we seem

for when we decide

one thing, it changes to be

another.

Here we lie in our humanity.

Author's Note

E.V. Black
With nearly every poem I write I associate with it a vibrant memory. (This I will try to tell you when I can on nearly every poem from now on. Won't that be fun?)

Before I wrote this, a girl in my class had collapsed onto the floor. I believe she had a slight form of epilepsy. But the kids, who were acting immature at the time, grew silent as the teacher called for help and watched their classmate suffer. I was struck by the true nature of people in times of need. It just goes to show that some behaviors are simply the mask for the true nature of a human being.

I like the vulnerability of the human element you have here displayed. The first 5 lines had genuine inspiration!
