A Fine Nightmare

A Fine Nightmare

A Poem by E.V. Black
"

The tears and the madness are the beauty in the sadness.

"

Happiness is sugar,

what is it to ya?

The tears and the madness

are the beauty in the sadness.

Deliciously well-flavored

and something to be savored,

by the brine in the tears,

broken hopes and the fears,

all the dreams in oblivion

that made life worth livin’,

the scorching passion

that went out of fashion,

turning tricks into cash and

makin’ sleight o’ hand

with cards up ya sleeves

among s***s and thieves,

seeing life just goin’

and never really knowin’

that the truths to follow

are hard to swallow

like beads in the throat

trying to choke

the body of air

`midst the despair.

Honeyed joy so sweet,

such a rare, rare treat

can never compare

to a fine nightmare.

Author's Note

E.V. Black
Happiness gives a great boost, but it has none of the dimensions and angles of sadness and pain. The latter two are a fine wine, never the same, with all a unique bouquet and flavor.
