This TimeA Poem by E.V. BlackAnother friend walked into my life last month.Another friend walked into my life last month. She brightened my day every time we talked. It was a joy to make her laugh and to see her smile. It was not to last.
Her voice faded into uncomfortable silence. We couldn’t wear it right because it felt too tight. This time I took action and confronted her. To my face, she told me honest truth. The others have never been straightforward. They sneaked about in the cover of night, hoping not to be caught.
Surprisingly, the truth didn’t hurt. It only confirmed what I had suspected: we were no longer friends. It wasn’t painful, only a deep relief had been lifted from my shoulders. This time the parting of friends was happy for me. It may have been a relief for you too, but in a different way. In the end, we conflicted too much. You did not respect me; yet, I respect you. If that’s that, so be it.
This time it was different, and I’m better off without you. © 2013 E.V. BlackAuthor's Note
