With the shower came the golden glints of sunshine upon the descending leaves. As they glanced around, they knew that it was death; the birth of one season and the death of another.
The leaves turned in time with the impending cold, which only grew as the days bore on. Soon, they knew, the trees would be skeletons of themselves, dormant in their wintry sleep. The world would never be as it once had been. It would be a shadow of its once vivacious life.
Also, they knew winter was not an enemy. There was beauty in the frozen season. The beauty existed in its glistening, crystalline snow that glimmered as natural diamonds in the winter sun. When the snow melted, it would feed the earth below. The earth warmed and cradled the seeds to nurture and to create new life.
It would come after winter, Regardless, they knew that the turn of each leaf brought new hope and new color to the world once more. © 2013 E.V. BlackAuthor's Note
