The Persistence of Loss
The gray sea wasnt even growing close to becoming tiresome of looking at, and the cramping in her stomach from not eating was hardly noticeable. Every time she began crying again shed force herself to stare back out the window at the sea, then eventually shed stop. This process had been going on for two days straight, not eating, not showering, just crying, and staring out the window. What else did she have to do? No one else was talking to her, after the incident with Christian. Her family told her to spend the rest of the holidays at the beach house alone, and after Hallie told David everything, he sure as hell didnt want to speak with her, let alone date her anymore. With Christian she didnt even have to wonder if hed talk to her, theyd probably never see each other again, and trying to accept that made the two days sitting by the window seem like a minute. She needed more time, and she wouldnt stray from her view of the ocean until she could quit crying, and maybe that would be forever. Then she considered the best idea she had since she returned to the beach house. She went into the bathroom and flung open the medicine cabinet, grabbing the first bottle of pills she saw. She ripped the lid off emptying them into her hand as several fell onto the bathroom floor. She wasnt even crying as she looked at the little harmless looking circles laying in her hand, just looking at them like she just looked at the ocean for two days, without jumping in and drowning herself. She tried to figure out if she was done looking, and couldnt believe it had gone this far to where she was about to stuff a handful of pills down her throat. By telling David everything, she thought shed feel relief, and by letting Christian go she thought shed feel closure, but all she felt was more heartache then she could ever imagine, and it seemed the only way to get rid of it was to stop the heart that was beating misery all throughout her system. It was a brash decision, it wasnt like shed been planning to do it, but just thinking about everything that happened it seemed like the most liberating thing to do. Just as she was contemplating her decision, she fell on her knees at the sound of the door slamming against the wall. It had already been partially open since no one was home and whoever was standing there must have seen all the pills on the floor. Christian? she cried in a raspy voice. Feeling dizzy she was unable to make out who it was. Hallie! Oh my god! Whats going on? Two manicured hands grasped onto Hallies wrists forcing her to empty the pills out of her hands. Abby, Hallie acknowledged faintly. Did you take any of these? Abby demanded. Not yet. Well youre not going to! I cant believe you were trying to kill yourself! I was just thinking about it, Hallie confessed. Abby kneeled down next to her in disbelief. Hallie was never the type to be suicidal, nor to look like she hadnt brushed her hair in a week, she was the gorgeous girl everyone wanted to be, a supermodel, well shorter and not so giraffe like, but here she was, a mess on the bathroom floor. It was true, everyone had their problems no matter how beautiful or rich they were. Why? Why are you doing this? Abby said nearly beginning to cry herself. Because I lost him, and I hurt him so bad, for no good reason, Hallie sobbed wiping the already black streaks under her eyes from mascara and lack of sleep. Youre talking about Christian, arent you? Filled with emotion that Abby came just in time before she did anything stupid, and everything she was relaying, she responded by hugging her friend crying out the little bit of tears she had left. Eventually the two girls got off the bathroom floor, and Abby walked Hallie up to her bedroom. Before she completely crashed out she took a glimpse of the watch that seemed to sparkle even in the dark room. David certainly didnt want it after Hallie told him everything, and so she became stuck with it, the reminder of Christian, and everything that went wrong. Maybe when she woke up shed find somewhere to stash it away so she wouldnt have to look at it anymore, but something that beautiful was pretty hard to forget about. .. © 2008 Evil_AngelFeatured Review
