One More TimeA Poem by MaireadWritten for the anniversary of my best friend. A poem of love, loss and grief. In memory of Aoife Fox.13.9.88 - 29.1.97. R.I.PYou left the world and went away, My best friend and I, torn apart, Me left behind with a broken heart, I remember those days back in school, When we thought that we were cool, Coats on as capes in the yard we ran, Pretending that we were Superman. Those precious memories I keep inside, Every detail imprinted in my mind, And when I feel sad or scared or alone, I think of you and I'm not on my own, I can go back to being eight again, Back when I had you before I knew pain, And for that short time I can pretend, That everything is perfect just me and my friend. I wish I could see your face just once more, See you smile just like before, To hear your voice, to hear you laugh, But I guess that's just too much to ask. I wish that I could have just one more day, To say the things I didn't get to say, To tell you how much you mean to me, To tell you I love you, eternally. © 2012 Mairead |
