In DreamsA Poem by Mairead
In my dreams I take a trek,
A journey so impossible, To heights I could never reach, To places philosophical, Lands that do not exist, In my conscious mind, That I do not believe in, But deep down long to find, It is one place in particular, That I have to go, One visit that I have to make, To soothe my heart & soul, One face that I have to see, Before I go back home, Back to reality, Back to being alone, One very important person, That I love & miss, One very special person, That I long to hug & kiss, And in my dreams it's possible, To see her face again, To see her laugh & smile, Feel my heart lessen with pain, To hold her hand & pretend, That everything's the same, All those years passed - a lie, We're just wee kids again, Innocent children, Untouched by sorrow, The potential to be anything, With infinite tomorrows, It is here that I am really free, In a state of bliss, Free from my demons, Able to experience happiness, The one place that I do not hurt, That I do not feel broken, That I can say all those many things, That were originally left unspoken, But like all dreams it has to end, And as I awake, I'm torn away from the garden, My heart begins to ache, Although it really hurts, The dreams are always worth the pain, For I would pay any price, To see her face again, It may seem contradictory, For someone who is agnostic, To dream of a place so divine, A place without logic, My reasons are very simple, They are rational & plain, I dream of this impossible place, To escape from my pain, In this impossible garden, The sun shines forever, The darkness cannot penetrate, No demons whatsoever, Whereas back in my reality, I can never escape or win, I have tried to drown my demons, But they know how to swim. © 2014 Mairead |
