Doggy-Paddling

Doggy-Paddling

A Poem by EverEmma
"

For Devon's Picture This contest; my first entry

"
No one would have known
It was our secret place
I didn't mean for this to happen
I told you to bring a jacket
You knew it was cold
But you didn't
The boards were old, rotting
It had been raining
It's called caution tape for a reason
I heard the snap
But I didn't think it through
Then I heard the splash
A gaping hole
It almost ate me too
You never told me
That you couldn't swim
I'd always just assumed

It is straightforward, sharp and precise..There is a cool, nonchalance in your voice here which makes it an interesting read..a short narrative,a snapshot out of what could be an entire novel..

The romance of a death trap... Simple; short sharp shock in plain words, and the abruptness of death itself is almost cut off.. I like the subtle rhyming style of this piece, and especially in that ending.
