Me and My Voice

Me and My Voice

A Poem by Eve

I've been writing for quite a while;

a couple years now

tentatively, at first, afraid

of what readers might think

my early verses were very short;

after more & more, the poems got longer

even penned a few short stories!

and something new I've noticed lately

I used to declare my personal feelings

only under fictional character names but

Now have discovered the word "I".

I find that I use "I" all the time;

I can't quite stop myself

don't wish to; I like

the sound, the feel of "I"

(to many folks this is probably "no big deal";

but I've been shy, raised in a repressive environment)

Perhaps I've grown

less afraid to own my words,

thoughts and feelings

To hug my shadow freely.

I really like this poem! It brought a smile to my face. Never be afraid to express yourself. Never be afraid to say "I" and stand up for what you are writing. Great message! I really like your last line, "To hug my shadow freely." Great poem! :)
