Present

Present

A Poem by Eve

The earth is my omnipresent inspiration,
no matter what may happen

No matter how many times I see
the carmine hibiscus flower

Blue-black boat-tailed grackles swoop down
to nibble crumbs from the ground.

No matter how many times we walk beneath tall pines
or see the golden silk spider spinning its giant web

In mangrove mud, spot fiddler crabs;
in the garden, anoles with red throat

May a thousand marigolds or roses never tire us
of their immaculate beauty and bright hope

May we never forget to notice spring blossoming
dogwood trees, newborn green leaves

And myriad subtleties; may my list of
natural wonders yet to see never end

As life is my inspiration; enthusiasm
and gratitude the foundation of success

And happiness is a baby bird.
