A little girl

A little girl

A Poem by Evangelis

I once knew a little girl

She was innocent

And only knew the world for what it isn't

That little girl has long been dead

Her innocence was lost inside her soul

Every thing she once knew was lost in a black hole

This little girl is older now

She knows the world for what it is and what it isn't

She knows the pain of love

Each day she runs to the safety of her room

Throwing herself against the warmth of her pillow

Wondering what she did to deserve this life

What has she become?

Why can’t she be that little girl?

Who always smiled when someone picked her up?

But now they only knock her down

She fell to her knees crying today

Each tear landing timidly on the cold earth

Looking up into the clouded sky she cries

And asks why, why do we change

What has become of that little girl?

Why is her life falling apart in front of her eyes?

Why can’t she do anything about it?

The sky begins to cry along with her soul and heart

As she stares into the darkness

Wishing to find that little girl

She finds only that she’s stuck in this heartless world

She closes her eyes ready to pull the trigger

When the little girl she once knew says

Lady why are you crying?
