Kelsey's Song

Kelsey's Song

A Poem by Etienne Lantier

When moon and sun have traded watch

And life’s a sleepless hell

I turn the television off

And kill the lights as well

When every light and sound are quelled

I play a single song"

A sad affair, a somber tune"

And mutely sing along

Inaudibly, I mouth the words

And mirror heartbreak’s rift

I think of you for just the time

That tune remains adrift

And once that song has sailed its course

And ended back at bay

I take my tears and saddened thoughts

And lock them back away

And slumber comes, a dreadful trap

But one I must embrace

And all the pain I locked away

Runs free inside that place

Well all those dreams are yours to slave;

The waking world is free

Except those minutes spent in song

Recalling agony
