The Undertaker's End

The Undertaker's End

A Poem by Calli

There once was a man named Hael Inferno,

Maker of coffins by the light of day,

Murderer by the reflection of the moon upon nightfall.

As the shadows crept to his door

Silence fell upon the people,

Their fear all-consuming.

They could only watch and lie in wait,

Knowing one amongst them held the ability to steal their souls,

The very essence of their being.

Each evening he would sneak forth from his home,

Grabbing the unwary travelers that passed through his city,

Choking cries of his favorite words from their lips,

That of “Have mercy upon me!”

And so upon that night,

So fated terribly for the wretched-minded killer,

The tides would begin to turn.

Another traveler set out,

Knowledgeable in the ways of the undertaker,

And with a need to avenge his brethren long since slain.

This man filled with fury,

So hateful and determined,

Knew that upon this night there would be bloodshed.

He followed the bestial demon from his shop,

Knife in tow and cloak drawn close,

Simply watched as he plucked a young child from the streets,

Dragging the poor boy into the catacombs of his home.

He ducked and turned as the passageways shrunk,

Bones littering the long and ill-used floors,

Skulls glaring at the man from crumbling sandy walls.

Not long after the company entered the place of despair,

They found themselves upon the bottom of the stairs,

Certainly a sign the boy took to be the end of his life.

Fate would cut his thread of life,

Taking no pity upon him,

For there was no savoir for him to be found.

The undertaker,

So filled with glee to try his latest creation,

Was not wary of the shadows about the room,

Leaving the man to tamper with his prey for precious moments.

The murderer rose and turned,

Contraption now at the ready,

Only to find the face of a scarred man with burly hands.

Have mercy upon me, my son…”

The undertaker cried,

Being pushed back into the very tomb he had created.

With a horrifying grin,

A guiltless laugh,

The man slammed the lid of the casket shut.

The spikes drove into him,

Slicing flesh and organs alike,

Crushing the bones of the demon,

Ending him with a final scream.

Morbid, but wonderfully so. I have to say your writing impresses me; you have a very mature, cultivated voice, the kind that chooses its words with obvious care and yet flows so naturally the reader can easily get lost in the stunning story presented by a stunning writer. Nicely done - I look forward to seeing more from you.

Loved it! What more can I say? This was brilliant! Although, I kept Picturing the Undertaker from Black Butler while I was reading this. But it only made it that more creepy and great! XD Nice job! :)

And I am in love with Vic Mignogna's songs he did for Fullmetal Alchemist.
