Dreamcatcher

I've always wondered if these things do work, or if they're just a comfort.

It sits upon the wall, nailed into the paint,

Does its name do it justice?

Is it a simple item,

Or a ghostly saint,

A complaint I’ve heard many times,

From many mouths,

They cannot sleep,

For their negative dreams surround them,

Closer insanity creeps,

So they turn to this trinket,

String, beads, wood, plumage,

To sift through their minds,

And eat their nightmares,

But nobody cares to think,

Does it really work?

Or does it simply swing,

At the edge of your bed,

And watch you sleep

Free form, but made with a certain rhythm.
When I started this, I was intending it to have an Edgar Allen Poe feel to it, but even if that didn't show through, I'm proud of it.

I've thought the same thing...
Maybe just the presence of the dream catcher is enough to make people sleep easier because they feel like something is there to protect them. Like a placebo effect, sort of?
