A Poem by Jamie Reading

Look on close and see.
There is nothing there.
Dancing fires burn at the edge of our vision.
These fires burn brightly.
But can we see them?

We ask ourselves what can we see
We ask ourselves what can we feel
We ask ourselves who we are
We ask ourselves these questions

We feel no heat from those fires.
We can barely acknowledge their existence
They take us forward, and hold us back.

Are we going forward?
or just walking in circles.
We know its there
but can we make it?

To find the warmth of the fire
will be a long journey.
Can we we really make it?
All that awaits us is
Death
Sorrow
The occasional happiness
and above all
Futility

Do we even want to make this journey anymore?

Look on close and see
There is nothing there
Dancing fires burn at the edge of our vision.
The fires just died.

Told you there was nothing there.
