The Sparrow and the CrowA Poem by Gio S.P.
He sat well-perched on both of his knees
Staring at his wife sleeping peacefully He saw the strands of hair fall to face And imagined hand brushing without wanting to wake He saw the wrinkles that came with her smile And oh, what a beauty so intensely sublime And a laugh - what a laugh weaved with intricate perfection Had his heart by the seams with such lovely affection He saw the tears that had rushed down her face And felt her violent shivers as he held her embrace She cried, oh, she cried 'till her echoes were no more Illness had taken over and her eyes were now closed
He saw what the cancer had done to his wife It had stolen his love and destroyed his life And through her death he drowned in his dreams Waking up in a sweat, crying hysterically The memories were a wound better left to forget He had told to himself daily with constant regret For he knew that to lose her face etched in his mind Would be worse than to lose her a thousand times So he sat well-perched on both of his knees Staring at his wife sleeping peacefully He saw the words which were carved into stone "A loving wife and mother, may you find your way home" © 2014 Gio S.P. |
