Little InfinitiesA Poem by Gio S.P.You lay in bed and stare at the ceiling Your life flashes by as the seconds turn into seasons And before you know it, your clock’s run out of minutes ‘Cause death waits for no one And it takes without reason So now your life had little to no meaning And you regret every second And tear apart at the seams It’s… a cycle, procrastination is addictive But the failure to lift yourself up Drowns your ambitions and that’s an illness But not like the breeze that brings the flu with it No, the depression that eats you up And the restriction that makes your heart rip A ripple effect like domino blocks And the failure to aspire to be more than people tell you you're not A lot of ruts and time to spend with gut-filled regret And I’ve wanted to quit, slide that blade across my wrist Or take that handful of pills to choke on my own vomit But suicide is never the answer You shouldn’t self-hate what was created to matter Because the matter that made you Is bigger than what should never matter But they hand you a self-conscious mindset That makes your heart shatter Your son or daughter will see it and they’ll come to you with questions “Mommy, what are those cuts” or “Did daddy go on a vacation” And you should see how quickly children pick up on those “coincidences” Their minds are meant to put pieces into puzzle Soon the truth will condense You’re meant to live a warrior So they can grow just like you But will you watch your child grow up And sleep in a hospital bed right beside you? You wear the make-up to cover up bruises Of past mistakes and better-forgotten abuses But ask yourself this Is that a life worth living? You’ve got to swim ashore before you drown But your anchor isn't lifting The point being made here is you’ve got to lift higher But not that kush or ‘e’ that leaves room for desire No, prove the voices wrong and use the doubt to aspire Because that soul is meant for living Your heart’s the coal, now start the fire And you’re a little infinity Wrapped up into a beating heart And although you feel fragile No words can tear you apart Because “I put strength in that backbone” Is what Being As An Ocean said And even if you don’t believe in God Believe there’s a purpose before the end
