Emotional Snow DayA Poem by Essie WDoesn't rhymeWhat I wouldn’t give for an emotional snow day An unexpected freedom A day to play and run and scream and just experience pure Joy For once just once What I wouldn’t give to be able to experience the calm Blankness Of a world covered in smooth undisturbed snow With the flakes peacefully falling to the ground My mind tries to go to that place But it can’t find it What I wouldn’t give for a day to let go A three day weekend without lingering guilt Red blood on red poppies GIs marching home to just to get stopped by redlines To walk around Anywhere Just anywhere Without outrage at A sign worded in a way that commemorates all the hard work of Mr. Serra Without even mentioning the word genocide Of just the fact that a golf course exists During a drought On public land On the site of an internment camp What I wouldn’t give to just let go And go flying of into abandon But there is only Crying Barking People that had wants and needs and thoughts and opinions Draining from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep Take five minutes to yourself they say Self care is important You need 10 minutes of me time But I really don’t I need to wake up unburdened To spend the day living without consequences To go to sleep in a cozy bed And sleep a deep restful sleep © 2024 Essie WReviews
