Emotional Snow Day

Emotional Snow Day

A Poem by Essie W
"

Doesn't rhyme

"

What I wouldn’t give for an emotional snow day

An unexpected freedom

A day to play and run and scream and just experience pure

Joy

For once just once

What I wouldn’t give to be able to experience the calm

Blankness

Of a world covered in smooth undisturbed snow

With the flakes peacefully falling to the ground

My mind tries to go to that place

But it can’t find it

What I wouldn’t give for a day to let go

A three day weekend without lingering guilt

Red blood on red poppies

GIs marching home to just to get stopped by redlines

To walk around

Anywhere

Just anywhere

Without outrage at

A sign worded in a way that commemorates all the hard work of Mr. Serra

Without even mentioning the word genocide

Of just the fact that a golf course exists

During a drought

On public land

On the site of an internment camp

What I wouldn’t give to just let go

And go flying of into abandon

But there is only

Crying

Barking

People that had wants and needs and thoughts and opinions

Draining

from the moment I wake up

to the moment I go to sleep

Take five minutes to yourself they say

Self care is important

You need 10 minutes of me time

But I really don’t

I need to wake up unburdened

To spend the day living without consequences

To go to sleep in a cozy bed

And sleep a deep restful sleep

YES, YES and a whispered 'yes' to make a very gentle point. Your words are the perfect antidote to what goes on in the world. Tis like ants going up and down the trunk of a palm tree and its every branch, day in day out.. as seen once when camping! No snow in sight but green on green, sumptuous, luxurious and real for Man and Creature. Bare feet and claw respectful to what the soil gives!

Your snow, similar but different..no in-fighting and no out-fighting merely peace in all colours rapt/ wrapped in just the one. Life should be on equal footings, under a similar if not same flag, a language understandable and where the first word uttered to friend and stranger alike is PEACE

Peace not only in 'our time' but in all times. Snow is thought of being peace pure, pure peace.. that after it falls not when humans have rushed its offering.. but have turned it into a quagmire. Is that the best that Mankind can create/do for itself. Seems your words calmly say the sweetness of truth not the would be violence of 'must be - or else', how cruel, unforgiving, thieving and more than more can be of the negative.
CHAOS BE gently DAMNED.

I think the world needs a calm, undisturbed snow day...one of peace and love and freedom to be who we are without wars, without hate.
when the snow falls it is so white and pure...and we get to stay in bed and rest.
The world needs a rest from the chaos.
I see I nice allegory in this piece.
