Her cup of tea

Her cup of tea

A Story by Koudoha Essi Anne-Marie

She woke up with a smile on her face this morning. Well that quickly changed when she turned around and saw him on the other side sleeping like a baby. The look on her face was a mix of joy, surprise and panic. She ran to the bathroom to do some touch ups before he woke up. It was very important for her to make him believe she woke up glowing every morning.

The mirrors never lie. Especially not the one in Nina’s bathroom; she spends too much time cleaning it to have an imprecise reflection of her. But to her surprise, the makeup she had on last night before falling asleep was still intact. She looked like she was about to walk down the aisle. She thought herself “he said my beauty pushes away the darkness. Now he’s going to clearly see what has been hidden in the darkness”

She got back to the room and lied in bed as if she had never gotten out of it. She turned around and wrapped her hand around him. He reciprocated and gave her a kiss on her forehead. Her face lightened up and she had a smile on her face which didn't fade away till about 3 minutes later when they had their first conversation of the day: “Vince”

                   “Yes baby”

                    “I made you breakfast”

                    “You are the best”

He said she was the best. Wait a minute! She didn't make any breakfast. What was she thinking? She promptly got out of bed to go make breakfast before he realized she was just craving for his attention. “I’ll go bring it babe” she yelled out on her way to the kitchen. Thank Goodness! There was a tray on the kitchen counter and it had and egg sandwich and waffles with a cup of tea. Whatever flavor it was, it wasn't her cup of tea, she was going to get an A for effort. That was the most important thing.

“I’m back”. He was just staring at her and then finally said “you are gorgeous”. There was that never ending smile again. They proceeded to having breakfast in bed, which he loved by the way, during which he had her hand in his and kissed it after almost every bite. Breakfast was over already. Not so fast, the kisses evolved from her hand to her arm then her cheeks and then her lips. What happened after that was none of anyone’s business. Well let’s just say it was a beautiful morning. So beautiful she fell back asleep after the sun came up. That hadn't happened in a long time

Nothing can be more annoying than the sound of an alarm after such a beautiful morning. She got out of bed and he wasn't there. He probably had somewhere to be and just didn't want to wake her up. On her way upstairs she saw Paul and before even saying god morning she apologized for stealing his breakfast. “I don’t know what you are talking about. You probably took Rachel’s Breakfast. Well nobody seemed to know who the famous breakfast belonged to. How convenient.

She received a text from Vince that read “Good morning darling. I Hope you had a goodnight. I kind of did even though I would rather had woken up with you by my side. I just wanted to remind you that registration deadline is close and we don’t have much time for you to think about transferring. And I can’t wait to see you”

Well hopefully that text message wasn't a dream as well.
