Swimming Pigs

Swimming Pigs

A Poem by Esoteric Strand
"

Bizarro in the Bahamas

"

Bahamas

Somewhere in there

But then again

this has-been finds

remembering hard;

it’s hard to say,

with all those bays and cays.

Someone left the door open;

someone’s wallet was stolen;

someone didn’t find this out

until someone’s tab was tapped out.

the Musha Hotel staff acted promptly,

and promptly ejected the unlucky lout.

And lickity-split,

I’m adrift on a rickety skiff.

No Captain Harris to offer me a spliff

(he was from the previous trip).

But lonesome just means

the talking (to myself)

increases exponentially.

(as if that would help)

Almost emerald-esque,

I think my drink shone.

As a matter of fact: jewel-like,

as an aqueous treasure-trove.

Myself got lost,

to say the least and most.

But still:

I refuse to mention the blue skies,

especially the white sand coast.

Halfway dragged the vessel,

as the Swimming Pigs greeted me.

All hungry, snorting, oinking,

and somehow actually swimming!

Porcine Freestyle

The Swine-stroke

Boars, wild pigs

no porking joke

But the eager beasts soon lost interest.

No food!

I unknowingly added injury to insult.

The feral creatures swam all that way

to be let down, this many-pigleted Cargo Cult.

Stumble and mumble in a fugue state

Simply can’t fill the breach in my speech.

Why does this happen? Words with my troubles.

Yeah, I like long walks on the b***h, beach.

Then, I fully discovered

some halfway buried things:

A pair of Ray-Ban Clubmaster 3016’s

An old-fashioned Walkman,

Metal-Ballads mix-tape set to Warrant’s “Heaven.”

As a newbie nobody,

was this to be the new me?

What was in that green drink?

My future:

Clutching wet granules

Wandering shorelines

To snuffle and cuddle

To fall asleep amid pigs

Surely not, but

myself got lost.

(This perturbed face reflected in sunglasses.)

“Where are you?”

“Where are you?”

“Where are you?”

Unanswerable.

This question cannot be tackled.

As it turns out, I desperately need my shackles.

Some parts of this poem I have no idea what's going on or what you're trying to say. But in some other parts, mostly the shorter lines you say some interesting and thought provoking things. Like time slipping through our fingers, losing ourselves and thinking of the future. However there's way too much going on, thrown in etc, that it doesn't make much sense and loses some of it's power. Whereas if it were shorter and without some of the fun and less thought provoking parts, then it would stay in the mind more and make a bigger impact. That said you conjure some fascinating imagery and thought provoking short lines within your writing. Though I've read some more fascinating pieces by you.

I like this poem. It is comical in the fact that you talk about swimming pigs.
