devastation at best

It's like a sky with no sun
it wouldn't be so beautiful
You wouldn't even notice it were there.

Does it really take darkness
for one to fall in love with the light?
Does it really take your absence
for you to miss having me around?

You never really did appreciate
the way my hand caressed your shoulders;
The way I would only argue with you
to make you believe you had yourself a smart girl.

Do you remember our very first kiss
at the bowling alley?
You almost tripped down the lane
when you stood back up.
I could see you were as starstruck as me
and I laughed.

I meant it when I said
you were my most favorite kiss,
my most favorite hug,
my favorite reason to smile.

It got to the point that
I couldn't even look into your eyes anymore.
I saw you staring at me
and I didn't know why.

You didn't love me like you said you did.
So why stare at me?
If you did love me you would have not abandoned me.
You wouldn't have been dishonest.
You wouldn't have ignored me.

I can look past every bad moment we had
and replace it with a good memory.
I only thinks the highest of you,

but still I cannot believe
that when you packed up your things
and left for another state
you couldn't make the time
to tell the love of your life goodbye.
