Death By Eyeliner

Death By Eyeliner

A Poem by Andrea
"

Deadly Sins: Vanity

"
She threw her halo
like a boomerang
and cried the day
that it never came back.
She looked in the mirror
and noticed her face
wasn't too pretty
when placed between horns.

She uses a deep black pencil
to conceal dark sleepless eyes:
No one needs to know
how much she needs rest-
from the stage-play she lives,
the drama she has written
on a used paper bag
with crayons.

Red wax for her chapped lips
that desire yet one more kiss.
These soft lips so prude
but scream "harlot".
Cover-up for the blemishes,
to hide the lines that form
when she smiles.
She wears the paste like a theater mask.

Her vanity is the life support
that keeps her alive
and gives more reasons
for the horns to grow out.
For her deadly ways
her halo will stay astray
and in the bathroom mirror
remains a sinner.

This could pertain to so many people that hide the real them in order to fit into the standards set by the media on how we should look. It is a sin against ourselves.
