first month

first month

A Poem by Sarah Khalil
"

This is possibly the least appropriate poem to be posted at the beginning of summer. It was written, of course, in January.

"

I have yet to know many a first month

once on its way

that doesn’t shroud the World in gray

Gray all the places!

My stockings, woolly caps

Drawn and tired faces.

All the red life left on last month’s tree

Dumped, else still dawdling on the balcony

eleven months too soon.

Gray in the souls

like those ghastly ghouls

you see in cartoons

but paler

pale like weary, worn, so sleepy slowing,

so lethargic is my inside right inside,

a heater glowing red to keep me breathing while rain is gray enough for snow

miles gone

Drifting from gray, I’ll sleep like a cloud

I’ll lift my languorous,

lousy head some-day

and my life will be

and life will be

Spring.

I prefer the cold months. Snuggling down next to a roaring fire, coffee or hot chocolate at hand..my paper and pencils always close. Oh yes, I will take those times over spring flowers any day. In the last stanza, I read lousy head as a head full of lice. That isn't what you intend I know! That could be just me, but I wanted you to know what I saw! I hope you don't mind, Sarah. Angi~

Haha. Yeah that is out of season, but it's excellent anyway. Winter isn't very fun and grey does seem to be its primary color.
