I still remember you (Love poem #6)

I still remember you (Love poem #6)

A Poem by Ern M. Yoshimoto
"

just a low effort love poem

"

I still remember you
 although our time was brief.

That summer of twenty-twenty-two
then you snuck away like a thief.

You could see
 only half of me,
the other half I kept concealed.

Broken parts,
 a string of hearts,
  and places that haven’t healed.

I’ve seen you unclothed
 I’ve seen you unloved
I’ve seen you dancing in the street.

What if I could hold you now?
 What if, what if, somehow;
  What if we never meet?

I suppose you have forgotten me,
 that’s probably for the best.
Just a shadow of a memory
 lodged somewhere inside your chest.

It's funny how we read things at different times and discern different things.
Like Pete, I read disappintment and longing.
"Snuck away like a thief" is telling.
You are an amazing writer, Ern.

the give and take of love. honest and heartfelt. not an easy thing to let down our guards in love. i feel the disappointed longing in this.

a very heartfelt poem...when love disappears it is painful...sometimes anger reveals itself, surely memories are going to be mixed between some sweet ones and some sorrowful ones...it definitely leaves scars....and shadows which will linger...

And no doubt you have seen every scar and know its origin. We can attribute that to love. It only makes us remember what the heart cannot forget.

Not cheeky at all , but an open and honest regret that she only knew you in part and not the broken soul side that you kept from her.
Forgotten.... maybe not , if it is your destiny she will find you again.

well you may find it cheeky, the truth is something much more Ern. The universal theme is squarely fixed as to become your own. Rhythm is fantastic, dare I say hypnotic. And the diction dances that fine line between melancholy and treacle without ever once toeing over the edge, cascading down into the mundane.

great poem
