Is it even worth mentioning (Love poem #3)

Is it even worth mentioning (Love poem #3)

A Poem by Ern M. Yoshimoto
"

love poem

"

Is it even worth mentioning
how much you mean to me,
 how empty I’d be
without your reassuring
comforting smile?

Everything, everything.
Words are so vulgar
words are so vile
made fatuous by the sound of laughter
 by a touch
 to fondle your breasts
 to kiss your mouth
an afternoon unmeshed
by your smile, by your pout.

I need you, I want you

I know nothing, nothing
but that much is true.

I like the tone you’ve struck here. Anyone who has been in love will know how many words gather in the throat as we seek the right ones to share. That’s what I thought of as I read this. When you love deeply no words or thoughts seem to be adequate to express the depth of those feelings. We seek invention, singularity, our own language to share with the lover. The poet writes poem after poem trying to articulate what it is they feel but again and again the words feel as though they fall short.

That is what I was think when I read this. That dance we do with ourselves to try to evoke the fullness that love can house within us. The words here create a sense of a mind racing as it encounters the newness, the intensity. Falling in love can feel like a spiritual experience. The lover becoming a deity in our eyes. I thought your words did well to encompass that state of love.

Have you read Neruda at all? I enjoyed your poem for the way it shows how love impacts in multifaceted ways. How it can mystify.

Yes, indeed.
This love poem captures the intensity and depth of romantic longing and need. It eloquently captures the complexity and intensity of love, the struggle to find the right words, and the profound impact of a beloved's presence. It resonates with the universal experience of longing and the deep connection that transcends language. Another truly enjoyed produce of you ink 🙏🏻🕊👍🏻

I have an appreciation for the simplistic way that you express affection in this because inside of the simplistic unfolds a much deeper meaning within the language the feeling of how words become almost useless and impractical to express your feelings is very palpable in this poem

In case you don't know this song, I'd recommend it. Seems like it's one you might appreciate:

Enjoy the Silence
Song by Depeche Mode

Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand?
Oh, my little girl
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm
Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable

thanks Pryde. always love reading your comments :D
Very nice, its always a bit challenging to put your feelings into words or just say how you feel but in the end when we do, to makes sense more than anything. I enjoyed this simple yet meaningful poem.
Thanks for sharing.

It's often hard to put into words how we feel about someone. You did a great job here, Ern. Depending how a woman feels, I'm sure poets have a bit of advantage if the woman is sentimental.
