I feel this...autumn is my favorite season and I lost my mother several years ago.
My favorite picture of her is one taken in Vermont on a beautiful fall day and she is standing in front of a maple tree, decked out in its orange and gold...and she in her Pendleton jacket.

Ern, loss of a loved one is always hard. It has been 8 years since my mom passed. I think of her often, at times it just hit you. I wrote this to my dad after her death.... "A flower blooms for only a moment, but its opened petals brings light and joy to the world." She loved African Violets. It's strange perhaps, but my mom passed in Autumn, just a few days shy of Winter.

Get well soon! Missing autumn this year and feeling the summery furnace of Spring (Aussie style) perhaps next year but your poem brings me back to the fullness of a nihon aki.

This is a very beautiful expression of loss mingled with a deep rooted love for nature's beauty. The loss is embellished by the beauty around the poet till it glimmers as a precious gem within his heart.

You're welcome. Yes, I did sit in my terrace garden for some time. Thanks. :)
"At no other time does the earth let itself be inhaled in one smell, the ripe earth; in a smell that is in no way inferior to the smell of the sea, bitter where it borders on taste, and more honeysweet where you feel it touching the first sounds. Containing depth within itself, darkness, something of the grave almost.'"

the words of Rilke always move me. thank you for sharing.
Autumn has always been my favorite season for the splendid colors it brings. I'm sorry to hear about your mother's passing. I can see the connection you've made between the joy of spring and your mother; and the grey skies without her.
You wrote this really well, Ern.
