Claw marks

Claw marks

A Poem by e
"

Read the quote “everything I’ve ever let go of has Clark marks on it” by David foster Wallace and I wrote this about it. It’s about wanting something so desperately but it never fufilling ur needs

"

“Everything I’ve ever let go of has claw marks on it”
my knuckles turn white and my hands go numb
I grasped on not checking its stability, my forefinger crushes my thumb
Fibres of desperation crust under my nails
I’m too driven to let go
my palms now impaled
Maybe I’m too weak
My hands start to slip
Why am I aching
I start to loose grip
I let go accepting fate,
Delusional yet driven
like a fish to bate
When I find something I enjoy
I cling onto it for dear life
blindsided by hope
my blistered hands need iced
Must be short term memory, discovery, addiction, healing
I wish I didn’t feel so intensely
My skin is left peeling.

"I wish I didn’t feel so intensely" says it all for me. Claw marks show Wallace was grasping for something real and not an illusion. Maybe it's a symbol of possessive aggressive behavior on his part. He wants to hold on. I enjoyed your write.

Erin, Such strong emotions and internal adventures I see here.

This has good style and diction. The only negative is that it felt like a road map rather than a discovery. It is a great quote, but where can you take it?

Needing or wanting something so badly to leave claw marks on it is pretty heavy…you strive desperately to no avail…..this could one of the most frustrating things in life……and as we age it becomes more physically and mentally challenging as well….but when you strive for something and you achieve it, it is quite fulfilling….. nice write!

You’re very welcome

As you say in your note, when we let go, we realise then that their need was not required, but more like a habit, as in the piece itself.
We are surrounded by things we cannot do without, until we do.
Right now for instance, a more festive quote (kind of) comes to mind.... Because its so cold here, you'd have to prise my gloves off my cold dead fingers before I let them go! 😊
On second thoughts, that wouldn't fit in you're piece at all! 😊
