The Martyr's Prayer

The Martyr's Prayer

A Poem by Erik Daniel
"

A prayer inspired by Stephen's prayer at his stoning.

"
Lord, can you see me now?
I am lying broken upon the ground.

I can not do this with my strength alone.
Please get me through this so I can come home.

I ask that you will not let them extinguish my flame,
And that my death, in some way, will bring glory to your name.

I pray that you will receive my spirit,
And when my time comes that I will be fearless.

Lord do not hold this sin against them.
Do not condemn these foolish men.

Forgive them for they know not what they do.
Prepare me a place; Lord, I'm coming to meet you.

It is my pleasure
Wow, this is a very moving poem. It is very haunting. I adore the line of how he asks God that his horrific death would bring glory to God's name. Such selflessness-- and God answers such humble requests. The rhyme scheme was excellent and the entire thing flowed beautifully. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much for the review!
I find rhyming to be difficult sometimes, especially when there is a specific word I want to use and nothing seems to go with it, but anyway, you seem to just naturally find the perfect wording! Well done my friend. I enjoyed this one.

You're welcome, and yes you did a great job. Keep up the good work
It feels like, to me at least everyone always forgets how great a Christian example Stephen was. The man loved God. This poem is definitely a beautiful prayer. Way to go with this one!
