Babel

Babel

A Poem by Andrea Di Martino

Before the tower fell

God spoke simply,

In directives as clear as

"Pass the salt."

Before we began to climb

God loved us as we love sex,

Down amid the mud

And the dirt and the pain.

But...the tower did fall

Destroying our ears

For all time,

Hearing without listening.

Since the tower fell

God speaks simply

in omens, portents

and open interpretations.

And I do mean #^*&%.

You've got real insight within your lines of verse.
