Magpie

Magpie

A Poem by Andrea Di Martino
"

panic attack.

"

Behind my ribs,
Struggling to be born,
Her yellow ringed, wild eye
dilated,
She fights.

Where would you carry me,
Raven with panic wings?
Thief of silver serenity
Under November moons.

Months have passed
Since her last attempt
To break free, spread her
Wings to stop my breathing.

Rock her with a mother's arms,
Child of my insanity.
Caged, drugged docile,
Shaking, in uneasy sleep.
