PrologueA Chapter by Stephen CaldwellPrologue
Out in the depths of the North Atlantic, there lay a city of wonder and harmony. Gigantic disks that topple over the rising waves, held by poles that reach the ocean floor; made of the strongest metal ever conceived. Sanctioned by NATO and despised and berated by the UN, this city is as unique and brilliant as it is oblique and benevolent. This place, over the high seas is known as Columbus, and just like its name suggests, to discover oneself here is to be an oddity among society and modern creation. That is: being out here is much different than being on bodies of land. Here in the biospheres of Columbus’ six towers, the only means of crossing them is through UN control of the bridge platforms. Though Columbus still stands tall, those that would try to tear down its majesty often come through. As trying as it is, the people of Columbus celebrate with games called sea-faring and they do so with laughter and open hearts. Here they mainly stay in their separate hovels except to get food and to the monthly excerpt meetings. People practice all kinds of religions here, but most revere the speeches of Mr. Magnon, who speaks of the currents and waves. His speeches speak to the people of Columbus and their sensibilities. And that leads us to the basis of our story, one young girl. © 2017 Stephen Caldwell |
