The Appellation of Alex CharlestonA Chapter by Stephen CaldwellChapter 134: The Appellation of Alex Charleston
Back home things were a bore. Trevor peeled his eyes open to read a book he bought on a whim. He couldn’t concentrate so he decided to take a shower. When he got out he checked his phone. He had a message from Alex. It read.
Got a new apartment. Simon’s here. Come on over.
The address was included. Trevor got excited. He put his book up and dried his hair. He smoked a cigarette and then put the address into maps on his phone. When he got there it was a small place smack dab in the middle of town. He was greeted outside by Alex and Simon and Alex’s new girlfriend. “Howdy.” he said. “Come on in.” he was told. Trevor obliged. “So my friend how’ve you been since our last excursion?” Trevor didn’t notice that the girl was Leena until he got inside. “Good. Good. Been reading a bunch.” “That’s what’s up. Tell me, do you think we’ll ever have to fight again?” “Unfortunately Azazel is still out there. So I have no clue.” “Right. Right.” Trevor was disgruntled. He felt like Alex was being terse with him while Simon was sitting there like a dummy. “Let’s have a drink shall we?” he asked. “Now you’re speaking my language.” It was a stark bottle of whiskey he had and he carried it around to the coffee table to pour some shots. Trevor took it fast and hard and felt the bite of the liquor. Leena was scribbling something in a notebook while they drank, Simon remained celibate from alcohol till a bowl of bud was passed around. Leena would take the occasional shot but her gaze remained fixed on Trevor. “I’m sorry to interrupt.” Trevor butted in. “but is she recording me?” “That’s kinda why I called you over here. My baby wanted to write about you. She wanted to tell your story.” “Okay… where should I start.” Trev was already inebriated and buzzing so he was ready to open. “Start from the beginning, about Don I mean.” “Here goes nothing.” Trevor went on and on about how he got his powers and defeated the burning man. It took him all night to get to the crystal bomb part but she kept writing as fast as she could keep up. No moment became a bore and he didn’t want to disappoint his gracious hosts. “I think we’re all done here.” Trevor said. “Wait, don’t you wanna stay the night?” “Of course I will.” Trevor complied. “It’s already late anyway.” “You wanna watch a movie?” “Definitely, but first more alcohol.” They each took two more shots and smoked one more bowl, then put a movie on. It lasted about one hour and thirty-six minutes. Alex and Leena went to bed. Trevor grabbed a beer out of the refrigerator and Simon wrapped himself up on the couch. Trevor decided to smoke a cigarette with his beer and rightly did so. Bed was a welcomed feeling. Alex had a double-sided couch so it was simple to get situated to sleep. © 2017 Stephen Caldwell |
