Chapter 132: The Interference of David Alexander

On the first leg of the trip, Trevor made a comment about Sam’s rudeness. Trevor was riding with David. Sam and Alan were driving themselves, and Simon was riding with Alex. So the group of four cars were driving in unison on the highway to the coastline. As they were, the daylight was growing dim and David was growing tired. “Maybe we should stop somewhere for the night.”

            “No way José.”

“Okay Trev.” The night fell into place and they were more than halfway there, the driving was taking its toll on David and more than once he saw Alan and Alex swerve behind them. Sam never once faltered. As they crossed damp, wet roadsides the trip to the beach was unencumbered and well traveled. Trevor turned up the radio and a girl’s singing voice came through. It was a good song. Being that as it may, Trevor couldn’t help but have a about feeling about this. And his bad feelings were usually right. They were now a third of the way there and it was approaching midnight. The glow of the high beams engulfed Sam’s ride like a water spout. There they made a left turn and then a right. From there on out it was a maze of turns and straight-aways. Trevor could only guess that Sam had a GPS. He had forgotten that Jamie was way back there in the back. That left only Blaine unaccounted for. No matter, there was still seven of them here. Which meant the team was basically complete.

The road was growing colder by night time, Sam was going much too fast and David had to gun it just to keep up. His sporty little coupe was a thing of beauty compared to David’s clunky V8 truck. Trevor found himself passing the time by reading the road markers that came along the way. He couldn’t keep track, but he knew they were headed due east. Not far from their last turn they stopped. Under midnight skies Sam pulled off into a curb and parked, sat back, and got out from behind the wheel of the car with the rest of them trailing behind. It took several minutes to have all of them in the one area.

Trevor counted the minutes it took and each second was closer to when that thing would go off. He guessed it would be during the daytime though and not at night. He didn’t know why he thought this. They all stepped out to chat in a semi-circle. Sam started up with his regular monotonous tone. “We’re about twenty miles out, you cats ready to do this?”

“Yeah, why not?” Alan spoke. “Because it’[s going to be dangerous. If the ghost of Belial is tipped off that we’re coming then he might set it off anyway, or worse, he might have someone there waiting for us.”

            “He can do that?”

“I have reason to believe so.”

            “How do we stop it?”

“I can disarm it, but we have to be careful.” he said. “Can you tell me how to do it too so you’re not the only one who knows here.”

“Yes, fine. You have to set the crystal out of sync with its transmission. To do that you must drain its energy with your own capabilities.”

“Thanks, I owe you one.” Trevor fibbed. “No problem. Let’s move.” Sam said solemnly. They plunged back into their vehicles and drove away. The night hours were growing thin and who knew if the device would go off by daybreak. The energy on the road was surprisingly persistent. Cars were going past at an alarming rate.

At some point they reached their destination and it was a bank off the coast adjacent to a bridge by about a mile. The six of them were scouring the sand for the crystal while Sam stood stoic on the hill above the beach. “It’s got to be around here!” he yelled from the hilltop. Trevor had an uncomfortable feeling about his commanding nature. “I found something.” Alex screamed from down the beach. They all ventured to see what it was. It was a dark green crystalline structure with an aura that left him breathless. Trevor knew it was dangerous but he couldn’t help but feel drawn to it. Sam looked at it with enigmatic eyes. He reached down to touch it then decided against it.

“Now, let’s get this thing off.” Sam said. He knelt down next to it and put his hands around it and his arms at a precautionary height above the thing. He looked at it with those same glistening eyes and his hands shined the dark green light that Trevor’s did in his right hand. But the crystal did not stop, it began to get powered up. “What are you doing?” Trevor asked. “Trying to get it turned off.”

“No you’re not. You’re juicing it up!” he shouted. “You’re insane. Why would I do that?” Trevor moved to attack him but Jamie, David, and Alex held him back and Sam began to stand. “You’re trying to power it up you psycho.”

“He is in fact.” said a voice. Out from the shadows came the ghost of Belial. “Belial.” Trevor spat. “The one and only.”

            “Is this your doing?”

“Yes. Armilus and Sam here have been working for me from the beginning.”

“Because only Sam could activate the module, right?”

“No it would’ve gone off at sunrise anyway. Sam was just my insurance.”

            “Okay well this ends here.”

“Indeed it does.” Belial’s ghost disappeared. Sam was on the rampage. He pushed Alan away and kicked Alex. Alex dropped to the ground howling in pain. Trevor immediately pounced on him and Sam threw him off. David instantly blasted him with energy but it was blocked with his hands and pounds of energy. Trevor’s head felt heavy; he landed on a rock. He got up and moved towards the crystal and saw Alan doing the same thing. He pointed a coordinated strike on Sam. He could see in the distance the rest of them fighting and Jamie trying desperately to protect everyone.

Alan set his finger beam on the back of Sam’s head and it worked. Sam started screaming and Trevor ran at him full speed. Sam was already turned around and Alex and Jamie were down. Trevor kept going and rushed him quickly and speared him. On the ground, he tried to shove his right hand in his face, but Sam pushed up, energy burning and Trevor had to get off him. Alex ran up and released an explosion that sent Sam flying as he got up. When he tried to get up again, David blasted him and then Simon, then Alan. Trevor went up and put his hand on his head and searing it disintegrated. With it the rest of his body from the other three flinging their power at him.
