The EmbodimentA Chapter by Stephen CaldwellChapter 128: The Embodiment
It started out with pain shooting through his wrist like lightning; he almost twitched at first, then the pain subsided. Like a new day had just begun. Jamie was etching into him what he’d known all along, to fight fire with fire. No point in trying to hide it now. Jamie had the same symbol of his wrist only in the shape of a heart, a heartogram for the band SHE. Simon came in and watched as he looked at his new tattoo. In the midst of it, Trevor said ouch as it touched the brace of his wrist. Jamie appeared to be enjoying himself. Like the others, Trevor was ready for night of drinking and carrying on. David was already drinking while Trevor got his tattoo done and he would want a beer as soon as he got finished. “Would you take me back to the store?” he asked as David came in. “Yeah, I guess so.” “Right. Sweet.” “Bitter actually.” He was talking about the beer. David trumped back into the kitchen. “Almost finished their chief.” Jamie reassured him. “Ow.” he winced. Alan and Alex were apparently outside smoking. Brittany still laying in the tanning room. The circle around the piece was killing him. Trevor lifted up for just a moment as he was cleaning his machine and the needle off. Then he got right back on it. Finishing up in the next thirty minutes. “We’re all done here.” Trevor looked down at it. “Perfect.” Trevor wiped it off some more and headed into the kitchen and saw David there with a beer. “Are you gonna take me to the store?” “Yeah.” David went out and started the truck. He went to see Jamie. “Let me know when guests start to arrive.” “Alright. I’ve already begun inviting people through mass text.” “Great. I’m going to the store.” As Trevor walked outside he was thinking about how Jamie’s parents were out of town in Ohio. So they could party no-holds-barred. “Hop in.” David told him. “Alright.” Trevor said with excitement in his voice. He had thirty something bucks in his wallet and he wasn’t afraid to use it to get drunk tonight. Down the road, he offered to get David more beer. “I’ve got plenty, but we’ll need all we can get tonight.” “Alright, three cases then.” He came out juggling the three packages of beer and put them on the floorboard by his feet. The tattoo was stinging on his wrist and had been since he went in the Quicktrip. The ride back to Jamie’s was silent. Trevor was thinking about how he had all six of the intercessors in one place at the same time. Should he go after Percy or try to find the energy bomb Belial set up. Tonight he thought he’d let it all go and get down with his friends. Back in the driveway, David gave Trevor a word of warning. “I’m not driving you home drunk, so we’re going to have to stay here.” “Good. Let’s not let Alex get drunk. He can drive us around, or drive Simon home, or both.” “We got ourselves a game plan.” “Seems like we do.” They got out in the moist November day and got into Jamie’s house. Jamie was cleaning up his tattoo kit and sighed. “I’m not sure how many people are coming, but I’ve got five replies so far.” “Excellent. We should fill this place up.” “Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of.” he said jokingly. Trevor returned to the kitchen and guzzled a beer. He put the rest in the empty freezer unit. “Ah. This is so good.” “This… this is what life’s all about.” “You got that right.” Trevor thought about how they could seed all their necklaces if Blaine were here. That would require him to get back on Tracebook and invite him to the party and he really didn’t want to do that. He sipped a beer on the porch whilst smoking a cigarette. “You know we never really had to get into all this.” “According to Don, I did. To save my skin.” “What if he was lying to you to get you to do what he wanted?” “Well, I’m still saving the world.” David looked like he hadn’t seen Trevor in years. Maybe he was seeing him as the hero he was for the first time. “You think I’m going to make it out of this okay?” “Of course. Just stick with me and this’ll all be over once we stop the attack. No one wants that to happen.” “I wouldn’t believe you if I hadn’t seen all these things myself. You know that, right?” “I wouldn’t believe it either, but the first day I met Don I swore to use these powers to save myself.” “That’s good.” he patted him on the shoulder. “you got your priorities in order.” He walked back inside. “The first guests should be here in an hour.” Jamie said. “Woohoo! Party time!” David said and Alan smiled. “What’s with you?” Trevor asked him. “I’m partying too.” “Aw man.” Alex said. “Don’t worry. You can have a beer right now.” Trevor went and grabbed him one. “Yes.” Alex said happy to have one. Trevor downed one and then another. The night was just beginning. Before he knew it Trevor reached the peak of his drunkenness. He didn’t know how to act and placed himself in one of the kitchen table chairs. David sat down next to him. “How do we turn up the music in here?’ Trevor knew what he had to do. “Jamie.” he said into his bedroom. He was in there changing clothes. “How do we get music in the kitchen?” “We’d have to move my whole system in there.” “Let’s do it.” So they trudged and got the two pine box speakers into the kitchen. His computer hooked up to an amplifier. “Now we’re all set.” He cranked it up to a music steaming program and out came rap music from a famous artist. “Mmmm… we’re cookin’ now.” David said. Drinking a beer like there was no tomorrow, the rest of them spread out in the kitchen. Alan on his phone and Alex looking out of place, “We should set up beer pong.” Jamie suggested. “Good idea.” Trevor was looking for some competition since he got drunk. He was thinking about smoking some more, but wanted to stay in in the heat. This would give him something to do. They brought out twelve cups and filled them with water. “Who’s gonna win this one?” Jamie asked. “Us.” Trev and David said. “Oh is that so? I’ve got sober Simon on my side.” “I play better when I’ve drank.” “We’ll see.” “I’ll write a soliloquy for my victory.” he boasted. David and Trevor took their shot. Trevor got one and David missed. It was Jamie and Simon’s turn to shoot. Jamie landed one and Simon scored too. Balls back. That was the rules. Jamie sunk another one and Simon missed. Trevor and David turned it around on him and sunk both cups. They hit them once again and Trevor only scored. They were down four and Trevor and David three. Jamie and Simon both missed and David made one the next shot. Two left of their side of the board and four on Trevor and David’s. Jamie made a cup then Trevor made one. One cup left on the opposing side. Simon made a up next and David scored the winning shot after so much tension about who was going to win. Trevor started his soliloquy. David was next to him shouting about how they won. Jamie said whatever and went to call Laurie and Simon stood there dumbstruck. David shook Trevor in the middle of his soliloquy. “I’d like to thank God and all the fans for making this possible.” “Trevor the first people are getting here.” “Already? Damn.” They went out to greet the first people arriving at Jamie’s humble driveway. It was Duval and Terry and some girl in a car parked off to the right behind David’s truck. “We might risk drunk driving out of here tonight.” “I’m down. Just let me know when you wanna leave.” Duval and Terry walked up and said what’s up. “Nothin much. Playin’ some pong.” “Oho.. I want to get in on that.” “You’ll be playing me and David.” They all went in after smoking a blunt outside in the driveway. “Let’s get the slaughter started.” And they did get slaughtered. Trev and David lost while only sinking one cup. It was horrendous. Duval and Terry were boisterous victors which hurt even more. “I’m done with this.” David said. So drunk Alan and sober Alex stepped up. Trevor drank a beer to quell his cottonmouth. “Well I guess this is livin’ the dream.” David said. “You’re damn right it is.” “You’re really enjoying yourself aren’t you?” “Mhmm.. I couldn’t imagine it any more perfect.” “I guess your bar isn’t as high as mine.” Another car showed up. David and Trevor stood still in the headlights as they turned off. Jamie was supposedly still on the phone with Laurie. They greeted them and it was two more guys and two more girls. It was more tense with Duval and Terry at the pong table. These others and more than that were more for the party to accommodate. Six intercessors and seven guests. “How’s it going?” The stranger asked. “It’s going.” David said. “Alright, let’s get inside.” He motioned for them to come on. “I need another cigarette.” David said. “Here you go.” Trevor handed him one. “What’s next?” David asked. “Who knows.” They went back inside, music bumping, the two winners playing another game against two girls. Trevor was still a bit high and the music sounded good. He needed to bring the system closer so he could hear better. He decided to just go over to it and flip through the computer. He put on some hardcore and started grooving out. Jamie was detested, but bared with it. David moved around to the beat. Creeping along the countertop to the rhythm. The three girls seemed to be getting into it. Which made it okay for the guys. One more set of headlights came into the driveway. David, Trevor, and Alex all rushed out to meet them. All three saw the car pull in and pull off to the side to make room. It was approaching two o’clock and Ashley, Megan, Tara and Michelle had just arrived via Tara’s Dad. Trevor greeted them all with hugs and David hugged Tara. “Glad you could make it.” he said loudly. “Yeah. Ha.” Ashley said. “Michelle, it’s been so long.” Trevor hugged her. “Yeah and you’ve probably not missed me at all.” He thought. “Yeah, I’ve missed you.” “Well there goes that theory.” “Come on inside.” David said. “I’m gonna stay outside here and smoke.” Michelle said. “Me too.” Megan said. “Alright, but we have beer pong and brouhaha.” Brewhaha? What is that?” “It’s a real word, meaning we have beer and fun.” “Oh, okay..” Megan looked unseemly. “Ah, I love cigarettes.” Michelle said. “Yeah, it’s so peaceful out here.” “Makes you wanna move to the country. Even though were right outside the city.” Megan said. ‘Interesting thought.” Trevor proclaimed. “you know I made out with Megan, don’t you?” he said to Michelle. “yeah, I heard.” “I just don’t want things being awkward around us.” “Trust me we won’t be.” “Good. I was hoping you’d say that.” Trevor said sternly. The three of them walked inside Trevor got another beer, but they were starting to lose their tolerance on his system. It was like he was drinking water. The bass was knocking in there as Jamie had put rap music back on. Beer pong was heating up, Terry and Duval were still at the table, winning every game. He made his way into the guest room and sat down. Waiting for someone to join him. He looked at his phone. 10:05 and put it right back in his pocket. There was nothing more to do here tonight. David poked his head in. “Hey, we’re gonna go chill in the basement. You comin’?” “Yes. One second.” Trevor got his phone and took a selfie right there in the computer chair. Then he rounded the corner. The two dominators were still manning the kitchen table. Trevor slid down the basement stairs and fo0und the three girls Jamie invited on the couch behind Alex’s drumset and the rest of them assorted chairs or standing. Trevor lit up a cigarette. Jamie was pounding a beer and stood up to finish it going down his gullet. “Wow. You’re really killin’ em’.” Trevor said. “Yup. I wasn’t lyin’ when said it was going down tonight.” He spilled some on his beard. He exspelled some gasp of refreshment. Trevor opened up another one and took a sip. He then slunk over to the couch by the girls. Tara was standing next to him and he picked up on their conversation. Ashley’s boyfriend had just recorded a new deathmetal album and was supremely excited about it. Trevor started talking to her and the conversation got increasingly heated. He wondered why he ever didn’t think go with here. But, it was too late now. He moved back toward the middle of the basement and finished his cigarette. David had just did the robot and Trevor started to get his lean on. The music was kicking up and so was the party. Three more cars showed up and packed the kitchen upstairs. Trevor, Jamie, and David had no idea who had arrived here. Then all of a sudden Blaine came down the stairwell. “Hey!” Trevor yelled. “How’s it going boy?” “How did you get here?’ “Ashley invited me.” Trevor looked at Ashley. She shifted about am smiled.” “What are you lookin’ to do tonight?” “Get plastered of course.” “Let’s put some core on.” Trevor went upstairs and change the music. David was banging his head when he came back downstairs. The music was so loud you could hear it perfectly downstairs in the basement with the doors open. So loud that it was hard to hear what anyone was saying. Blaine was whispering in Ashley’s ear, Jamie was drinking a beer, and David was hanging out the back door and smoking, all four girls in the back of the basement smoking, putting their cigarettes out in ashtrays. Jamie looked like he wanted to go back upstairs and he did. Trevor followed him. There was certainly new guests upstairs. People he hadn’t seen before. Duval and Terry were still mastering the pong table. “Come on in here.” Jamie said. Trevor went in to Jamie’s room and he had a large pipe full of weed in there with him. “Close the door.” he said. Trevor obliged. There were significantly less posters than before in Jamie’s room. The place smelled musky and masculine. “Sit down.” Trevor did so. “So where’s Laurie?” “Oh, you know, she’s doing her thing.” “Right.” Trevor said. They started puffing on the pipe. Trevor was feeling it immediately after taking a hit. The door closed, he let him know that they’d have to start kicking people out if they kept showing up. Trevor said that was fine and understandable. The air was thick and full of green smoke. Jamie was satisfied and Trevor took the last hit. “Let’s get out of here.” Jamie told him. He put the pipe away in the closet and followed Jamie out through the crowd of people. It was chaos and disarray throughout his home. Just the way Trevor liked it. He went back down to see Blaine and asked him if he’d like to take part in a little ritual. Then he mentioned it to David and informed Alex as well. The three went upstairs with him and pulled Alan out of the tanning room and Simon from the bathroom. Finally he talked to Jamie and convinced him to let them seed their necklaces in the driveway. “So we’re going to do what with the necklaces?” “Seed them. Taper each individual power to all of you. It’ll be a piece of cake.” “Okay. Sounds simple enough.” David said. “This will be the mark of our initiation.” The seven of them roamed outside and a few others followed. They surrounded a car in the middle of the driveway. Trevor got the necklaces out of the bookbag in David’s truck. He made a mental note of which symbols would be befitting of whom and passed them out. “Now put your hands over your heart and release your power.” The six of them complied and they all glew brightly. “Hold it there for a while longer.” They all became a mass of tightly knit energy in the air between them. “You’ve almost got it.” Trevor said and then he put his own into the mix. “How about this.” The energy formed a ball of energy that was perpetually powerful. As soon as it manifested, it turned and flew into the sky just like the first time he seeded his own necklace. It surged up with such propensity that the car got smashed into the dirt. They tires popping up as they emerged. The surgence left them all in awe as they backed away from the event and stood fast before their actions. “So are we better now?” “Our powers should be tied to us and only us.” Trevor said as he stared at the space above the car. “Well, we’ve done it.” Blaine said. “You all should be well suited to your power.” he said. “That’s good, isn’t it?” David asked. “Yes. Of course.” he replied. “This is it, isn’t it? Our destinies convulge from here.” David spoke. “There’s nothing we can’t do as a team.” Trevor said, unbeknownst to him something was falling from the sky. Something pounded down on the hood of the car like a bomb. A figure rose out of the dust settling. “Hey! That’s my car!” Someone rushed out of the house. “Who are you?” Trevor asked. He looked up at the man with dark brown eyes and short black hair leaning over all of them, moving to-and-fro and staring at the group of people around him. Then he laughed. “Who are all these beautiful people?” he asked loudly. “This is my house party.” Jamie responded. “Oh? A party? Fabulous. I’m glad all of you are here.” “Who are you?” Trevor asked again. “Better question. Who are you seven? Because I am livid. I lost my spot in the great kingdom above.” “We’re the intercessors.” Trevor told him. “Intercessors? That’s just peachy. Well, I’ll tell you I’m not one to forget things like my brother Lucipher.” “You mean you know why you’re here?” “Let’s just say I’m not as forgiving as the rest of my kind.” “What are you going to do about it?” “Well, I’m an angel, this isn’t the first time you made this happen and one of us fell.” “Like when I sent a beam into the sky from my back yard?” “That’d be the one.” “Then who are you.” “I’m Azazel, the angel who’s gonna wipe you off the face of the planet.” “Okay boys, time to light him up.” Alan, Alex, and David blasted him with their energy, he began screaming in agony. His face was melted and frying even more. He was laughing again as his face healed right up and he put on a smile. He grabbed Alex by his face and Alex exploded with an energy bubble and bounced him back onto the top of the car. “My car!” somebody from the porch screamed. Trevor ran up and put his hand over Azazel’s face. “You’re not going anywhere.” he said. “What’ll you do to stop me?’ Azazel kicked him off and few up into the air. “Next time we meet you’re dead.” He flew off to the right into the night and Trevor stood, baffled by the angel and his antics. He hoped his prophesy wouldn’t come true. “Oh, my baby.” The guy came and got in his car. “If you think I’m coming back here you got another thing coming.” Trevor shook off his haunting last message and got out of the way. He needed to regroup and get the intercessors ready for a fight. It wasn’t like he could track him down with time-stop or some other means. This left him in a state of repose. © 2016 Stephen Caldwell |
