Silent TramA Chapter by Stephen CaldwellChapter 118: Silent Tram
The stage was being set and Silent Tram was ready to belt it out before they’d even begun. He could see the amplifiers humming decoratively and the members getting on their straps and picks ready to go. He couldn’t believe he was seeing them tonight. He’d been listening to them just a few days before and he couldn’t see how this was happening right now while Percy the angel was in their midst waiting to see what would go on. He had to keep his mind on the mission if he couldn’t lose his cool and keep the way he was that would be preferable. The alcohol was teeming in Trevor’s blood and rushed in from all that he’d imbibed. The form that this curtailed was that he was ready to hear metal tunes from start to finish. He couldn’t wait to move around a bit and get to know the audience as well. Here he would make a new pact that involved deceiving the angel and running off with his defeat knowingly and all alone. David couldn’t know for sure because that would increase the chance of giving themselves up before things even got underway. Silent Tram was one step away from going on and Trevor stared at the stage light in awe and amazement before he went and threw away his empty beer can. The feeling of the marijuana led into a crossfade that was unbeatable. The stage became alive and the sound of humming guitars grew from the two that were setting up. It was increasingly loud out in the field and the night was still anyway, so it added to the effect of the audio piercing through the air. He wouldn’t wait for it to begin. He couldn’t wait for it to begin. He looked over at David who was still standing by Dave and the others. He looked to be smiling. Likely because he was high. Timmy and Marvin were moving around lackadaisically waiting for the band to play. Percy moved right up next to them. “Hey, is this what you meant to see a show?” “It is. I think you should be surprised by the quality of Silent Tram.” He wandered about then put a smile on his face. “Thanks for bringing me here.” “No big deal.” The band opened up loud and awake. He moved further in. Two beats and two sweeps on the scales of the guitars. The guitar players started sweeping off notes and soaring high above them on a plane of consciousness that was ready to put on a priceless performance. He let the music flow through them and he moved slightly more to the left and lit another cigarette. He crept slowly closer; the more-so he could hear better. The blasted beats of the drums made for a large scale uproar of noise that went along with the melody in perfect sync. That way the singer could come in at about forty or so second after they begun. He knew that he had to take him out sometime after the show. Sometime tomorrow. That would be the time that he would deal with a rogue angel when he didn’t have any idea how to kill it. That would have to make do. That was when they started playing. A high note rang out through the mild crowd in the field across from the track and he was moving slowly to the notes moving across the fretboard and into the night. He moved up to the edge of the giant ovalion structure that was made because of the band playing. He could hear the bass booming out into the crowd and making a mess of their waiting bodies for the rest of the song to be played. They had started. The music started to flow through Trevor and he couldn’t concentrate on anything else. There was a silence in the place and then Dave spouted a, “Aw yeah.” and that was that. The singer Billy and his beard looked menacing. As his eyes were wide open he began moving with the band and went to the edge of the stage to scream out into the crowd through the monitor sized speakers that were set up. Silent Tram was kicking out the jams and Trevor could not be more excited that Jamie had made all this happen for them. No complaints could be made and there was nothing more that could’ve grabbed his attention better tonight. Their noise was careening through the night shade and they all had their eyes on the band. Percy was rocking back and forth, leaning to the music with his arms crossed. When they finished up their set they looked around and seemed distant. From the crowd and who they were. Trevor walked up to their vocalist Billy and asked for an autograph and a T-shirt. He sold him a t-shirt and shook his hand in a silly way. Trevor was all confused and in a state of disembodiment. The lights shined down on them both and Billy was ready to get out of the limelight. After everything was put away and people had gone. Trevor, David and Percy moved back to the car to drink some more. “Can I have one of those?” Percy shifted around nervously. “Yeah sure.” Trevor said. He grabbed one and popped the top. “Hey!” Came out from the distance. It was Jamie. He and his crew for the entrance of the show hadn’t left yet. He moved ever closer to the vehicle. Finally he made his way up to the driver’s window. “Aye. Whoa, who’s this guy?” “This is Percy. Our newest friend.” “Nice to meet you.” He reached in to shake his hand but decided against it when Percy was unresponsive. “So, hey, there’s a party at this guy Nate’s house afterward. An afterparty. Are you guys coming?” Trevor and David looked at each other. “Yeah, count us in.” “Alrigh! Follow me.” Trevor started the car as soon as he stepped away from the car. He pulled right up around the path entrance and behind two moving vehicles. Then took a left onto the highway, cruising at forty-five miles and banging music in the driver’s seat. He threw his new t-shirt back with Percy and headed out behind the two cars packed with people. © 2016 Stephen Caldwell |
