Karen’s AssistanceA Chapter by Stephen CaldwellChapter 114: Karen’s Assistance
He saw the door close behind them and Trev jumped in the car to get to Jamie’s before the angel could take off elsewhere. “Maybe we should track him first before we pick up Jamie.” David suggested. “No, that’ll only slow us down. Besides he’s on the way.” They headed off toward Jamie’s in the blink of an eye. When they made it there he set his CDs down in the dash tray. He called Jamie. No answer. He called again. No answer. “Where could he be..” Trevor was tapping his toes in anticipation. His car wasn’t there so he had no choice but to call. “Like I said maybe we should just go by ourselves.” “We might have to if things don’t change soon.” “Rrrr…” Trevor muttered after ten or so minutes had past. “I guess we go.” he relented while thinking about the upcoming adversary he would have to forego. The rock crumpled under the car as he drove out of the driveway. He drove straight for where he thought he remembered the park was. “Do you know how to get to Morsel park?” “Yeah, yeah. It’s by where I used to go to school. Make a left up here. It’ll be easier.” Trevor obliged as the wheels kept turning underneath the carriage. He bustled as he made the last leg of the journey; speeding by up to fifteen miles. He wasn’t sure how much he could do with just the two of the them, but the question was could they win. That was the big one. The question that led to their fate of their demise. What would the outcome be? Better yet, would they even find him here. He could have moved on since they saw him in the crystal ball. He worked his magic on turning into the parking lot and coming to an abrupt halt. He couldn’t do any more to get around any faster; with pedestrians in the vicinity and possibly cops on the road. It was easier said than done to find a fallen angel in the area. He jumped out and so did David. “So what do you think? You think we’ll find him in the park here? Just standing here among the park-goers and waiting for us to fight him?” he said casually. “I don’t know what I expect.” Trevor said furiously. He was beginning to imagine if this was even a great idea finding him in the day. But, if he didn’t he might lose him as fast as he’d been traced. They walked across the wooden bridge side-by-side. Keeping a bird’s eye out on the land before them. They walked around the epicenter of the park, which was a soccer field, one time. They made the distance down a trail which was not connected to the main pathway once and doubled back once they found nothing but woods and the pathway they’d walked before. It wasn’t much but scenery and green fields with a creek crossing through the middle of it. He started to get tired and they went back for the car. “I guess we didn’t make it in time. We lost him.” “For now.” David smiled. Trevor felt a little more hopeful. “We could always go back and track him again with the ball.” “Where was he when I saw him earlier.” It was hard to tell from the narrow view that encompassed the ball. But, he knew it had to be this park. The tone of the grass and the view of the highway were distinctly the same. He came to figure that if he were here he couldn’t have gotten far. “Where would I go if I crash landed on the Earth’s surface just before realizing I was in a park?” He wondered carefully. He looked at the bathroom from where he was by the car. That’s where I would go. He ran to walk in and David stayed behind. Mostly because he didn’t tell him where he was going or why. But, certainly there was a chance he’d gone in here. He cracked the door open and hunched in quickly. The lights were on and it didn’t’ look like anyone was in the stalls. Trevor became discouraged and rightfully so. He wasn’t anywhere in the area and it didn’t look like anyone was in the stalls. He begun washing his hands instinctually like he had them covered with bacterium. But, he was not and he was curious to know why he felt he had a sliver of a chance trying to find the angel within the hour. Not trying, but actually pinpointing the rogue in the matter of one measly hour. He chose the best path of action. To drive around the park in its entirety and see if he could catch a glimpse of him. One lap around led to a lot of unnecessary traffic stops and a couple of honks at him. He couldn’t figure out how to get around the park at one point and it took him a minute to get his bearings on where he was. There was no surety that he was even still around here. He could feel his presence all around him though, it was running through him in his veins like an electric charge. He could diverge these feelings, at least not until he was out of range or he was dead. These were the only reason he knew he’d not left. Now he had to search long and hard until he could find and defeat him. He was beginning to pass a subsection of townhomes that had another part of the park, when David spotted him. “There he is!” “Where?” Trevor stopped and was looking all over. “He’s there on those bleachers.” Sure enough there he was sitting lackluster on the bleachers on one side of the park with his hands up on his chin facing outward and propped up.
