The EquilibriumA Chapter by Stephen CaldwellChapter 104: The Equilibrium
Trevor scurried to roll the window down and watched smoke slip through the crack as he smoked. He was a bit tired and leery as always. There was no traffic in between him and the other side of the city that led him home. He needed a grip on all that stood before him and all that had happened up until now. He didn’t feel like he was branded leader, it was more-so he had no control over the rest of them. He sat in seclusion of David’s truck and tried to devise a way to get them all in one place. He figured he’d have to invite Blaine somewhere, but how would he go about doing that? He didn’t have the answer right now. He settled for a quick fix and nestled in the truck seat for the remainder of the leg home. The stretch that encompassed the entirety of the North side of his city and this one. He could hear his own thoughts telling him he should have stayed at the show and kept watching. He shuddered from the cold and searched for his wallet. He got it and put it back in his pocket. He didn’t have much money in there, but it didn’t matter. He shivered again and tasted the cold air flowing in until he decided to shut the window. The street just looked cold, and he had to run the defroster full blast just to keep the window from an icy fog. He started driving faster and faster down the highway. He closed the window and sat quietly. He just kept speeding up, they were hitting all green lights. A stroke of luck. Supposedly, they ran on a set of timers that led into one another. Not surprising, they all went the same way, so it would make sense that they would. The timer finally got to a red. David nervously slowed down and came to a half hitting the breaks harder than he maybe ever had. He looked down at his dash with a shocked expression on his face. Like he couldn’t believe he had just gone so fast and then came to a stop. “What was that all about.” he asked. “I think that it was me venting my frustrations.” “Oh? Why did we leave the show earlier anyway?” “Because I was getting real pissed off that one guy disappeared on me.” “How do you reckon we would’ve stopped him from doing that?” “I don’t know, but I’d imagine that we could’ve caught him off-guard.” “Well, I didn’t know that he would be there.” “Fair point.” he responded. “So, now what do we do.” “I guess we go home.”
