Chapter 98: Heightened Sense of Awareness

He woke again, this time it wasn't in pale fever. He couldn't believe the events of yesterday. It made him cringe to think he died for a third time. For almost nothing. But, that was a matter of the past, even if it was just yesterday. He came to feel as though the days were running into one another, and that was not a good thing. He couldn't bear the thought of getting over all this before it was finished for good. He couldn't leave himself and the world in impending danger. David was as always his first call for help. But, if Jamie was available he would recruit him too. Jamie was distinctly good at finding places to party where people were gathered and there was always trouble in one form or another at the places they conformed in. Like any other time he texted Jamie first and swallowed down some spittle and smoked a cig. He ran to the refrigerator for a soft drink and moved fast to get some fresh clothes on. It didn't take long for the caffeine to kick in, and it was stormy outside, which meant he couldn't drive very fast if he left.

Jamie texted back. “Hey, what's up bro?”

“Nothing.” he entered. “You don't know of any more parties tonight, do you?”

“I don't know we'll see.” he replied. So that was that. He clicked back. “I'll come over around seven.”

“Okay.” was the response he got. Now the air was growing colder and the sky dark. He walked outside to see what was going on. He could hear thunder and suddenly multiple flashes of lightning right before his eyes. “Lightning bug must be angry.” he thought. He went back in to grab his coat. Then he was going to get David.
