Chapter 84: Enders

Still pretty dark outside, he scurried into the car and helped himself to the heater. Freezing solid from the water in late October, he felt stout as he sat in the driver’s seat sopping wet. He hugged himself tightly for warmth while he stretched off his shirt with clung to him barely making it off. His pants reflected in the moonlight, soaked with surprisingly clean water. He rushed in getting the hot air amassing in the cab. He swung out and turned around, getting close to rolling off the cliff into a different body of water. He went so far as to stop and make sure he was on solid ground. He spun the tires and headed off back to the city. There was no reason to stay out. Morning was approaching and he was flying through the roads to get home. Like so many nights before, he went to the inline of the street and turned his lights off before entering the driveway and docking there. The neighborhood was quiet as it always was. Reminding himself of daybreak, he ran slowly to the door and got into his bed. Trevor woke at twelve noon the same day. Down naked. Half-asleep and yawning, also he was mainly sore and impossibly weak. Needing to fill his stomach, he ran to cook just about everything in the freezer. There wasn’t a third side dish or him to eat so he just buttered some bread and ate it dry. He fleshed out some ground beef and made cheeseburgers and had a baked potato with salt and sour-cream. It was satisfying and Trevor got the idea in his head that he needed to wash off the swamp water that was left on him. This was an exaggeration of course, but none-the-less his desire was spot on. He hadn’t the faintest what kind of bacterium lurked in that water, though seemingly clean. He surmised it was natural, that wasn’t an issue. He had seen Mr. Blowhard escape imperatively, and he wasn’t as preoccupied with that as he was getting most of the intercessors together as he could get. That man was on the secondary roster. Like the last time he had a couple of them, he stood a better chance than alone. Especially when his enemies had the tendency to hit him without warning, he knew the time was short. Now, he had to be concerned on what he had free-reign over and that was his allies. Not much to say for Alex who had no comprehension of what he was doing. There was no more restrictions on him and he must’ve had the right reasons because he’d taken out so many before with ease. He cracked his bones and went outside. Coming to terms with the fact he couldn’t get her back, the dark haired girl that he’d hadn’t even had one moment with. He got outside and got in the car. First stop was David, he moved up the street cautiously. He didn’t want to be too zealous in going to find him.

Speaking of which, he hadn’t figured out what he would manage to gather them for. An excuse to meet-up? A straight-forward approach. Perhaps a good party. Trevor hadn’t been keeping up with what music was being made. A passing thought. He stopped in front of his house, turned off the battery and got out. Locking the doors. He sat himself by the front door after ringing it amiably and shuddered to think if he was not home. He pressed it again. For David was the strongest besides himself and if he didn’t know better he’d say that he had a more effective power than his. Although, Trevor could use many others, his energy would burn out faster than he could do any damage if he tried to mix-and-match. Then as he got to thinking about matters, David came bustling to the edge of the stairs in the time it took to lift his eyes to the window of his door-frame. He opened up and exited his house. “Hey there, Trev. How’s it going on this great day?”

“Right now I’m here for you. I want to stake-out for another mission, but I don’t know how the others will respond.” he said. “Others?”

            “Yeah. Jamie, Alex, Simon and…”

            “Hey, wait…” he thought. “There’s…”

“Um, oh… I seem to have miscalculated.” he said. “What’s that now?” he asked. He sprung from a lower step as he’d been tracing around the stairway in repose, trying to get to the answer for all the adversities to come. He couldn’t wait to get to the one that would lead him to victory or the end of all this atrocity. He blamed himself for not being able to bring Brittany back safely, though not for a lack of attempt. He swung from step-to-step going up and down wildly. David gave him a funny look and grinned. “What are you doing right now?” he asked as he had dropped his face to a more concerned look of dignified manner. Trevor hoped he would not question what was on his mind. He went down to the walkway and came to a decision. “So, I think we’re going to bring Alex to Jamie’s and go from there.”

“Okay, I’ll get ready.” He went back inside, but Trevor stayed out there wondering what would come about from all this. He’d been through so much in the past few years and everything was so much more unexpected than the last. Not bearing the thought of losing to anyone much less some lightning bug that would harness nature and hide where it couldn’t be seen, he took it as a sign to go to the ends of his world to finish things once and for all. The one thing that was unclear was if there was any was to draw out this one called the rogue. That and if the other two, now were easily found. He broke from these questions when David headed out the door. He realized that when David walked out the door he had this mystifying image that made him look like he had an invincible coating to him. His vogue was shining in the sunlight as he walked down to where Trevor was. “Right. Let’s go.” he said. “What do you think Alex will say with you here?” he asked. “Why?”

“Because last time he didn’t vibe to well with you there. But, that was mostly because your opinion to their singer.” he told him.. Trevor started moving the car. “Yeah, he just didn’t sit too well with me honestly.”

“Well, he won’t be there this time, so no worries there. However, I do know that he might be hesitant to your attendance for now.”

“Oh, he’s a shy guy?” he smiled cocky. “Yeah, sure… shy guy.” Trevor sort-of laughed on the inside. He flung his jacket from the passenger seat to the backseat and allowed David to sit. He drove to Alex’s in record time, if he didn’t have a real life ever before it would surely be today. Trevor was planning on having a wonderful time while still gaining all the intercessors and learning all about them. Now would be the best time and he would for sure get them together. “Turn here.” he said. “Wha…. Why?” Trevor asked him. “Because, I want to see something.” he told him. Abruptly. Trevor did as he said. Going down a dismal looking road, speeding and coming to a halt at the end of it. He felt burdened. Like he was wasting time here, but he humored his request and gone off to the center of an abandoned circle. He pushed the unlock and let him get out and got out with him. Now, he was looking around at the trees and the land out here. First, he walked over to the side of the concrete and got his pen knife out. He began scraping the dirt beside the road and made a line by that means. He stood back up and looked out again. “You know, this would be an awesome place to build a home.” he mentioned suddenly. “Okay, where did that come from?”

“It’s the whole reason I came down here.” he said. “Why did you want to do that?”

“Because, I just really can’t stand our neighborhood man. This place and all this s**t is driving me insane.”

“Well, what can I tell you. We don’t have a ton of choices or else there won’t be a place to have and there’s no time to lose.”

“You don’t say? How can you be sure of that? I wasn’t aware the world was ending?” he intoned. “It’s true, I believe it.”

            “If you think so…”

“Yes, and Don, and the powers, and my memories all point to it being so.”

“So, you’re fairly set on this?”

“Indubitably.” he confirmed. “Well then, I believe you have me on your side.”

“I thought you were already.” he said kind of angrily. “Suppose we do figure out what’s causing this, then what?”

“I guess we’ll be fine.” he responded angsty. “Let us go.” he stated. He got back in the car and put on some hot air. It was cold that October evening and he found it suitable that it didn’t require a jacket, but that being outside, if only for a sitting, it did lower his temperature. The flying molded metal machine went down Alex’s street in a flash, he almost wrecked on a turn that pushed him to arc the wheel harder than he ever had. The cold air was fogging the windshield, but he was about there. David sat silently, having the remainder of the time to look at his phone and Trevor got curious about what he was surfing around on, but kept his mouth shut. He worked around going to the back driveway by parking at the end of the regular one. David asked him why he did and he said just because. Trevor leaned out the window and got on his phone. Alex picked up right away, like the last time he came out of the house. “What’s up?”

“Oh, nothing much. How’re you guys?” he asked. “I’m great.” said David. “So, uhm, I guess we’re going to see Jamie?” Alex had this jovial, carefree demeanor. Trevor sort of considered he’d been drinking. “Yeah, sounds good; And we’re going to get Simon too?” he posed. “Hah, yes, I forgot.”

Inside his head he really did forget that he had to go somewhere he hadn’t been yet. “It’s all good.” Alex said out loud. “Wha… whoa, I’ll never get used to that.” Trevor also didn’t remember Alex was one of the one’s who could read his thoughts. But, at this stage in the game it didn’t really matter, now was a good time to share valuable information with the two of them. If he even knew what he had to offer. So, David was messing around on his phone, and Alex looked about as content as he always did. Trevor, driving, passed the road that led to Jamie’s. At least the most productive way. Trevor once again asked Alex what was transferred between their brains. He got no response. Trevor had to wonder what would go through and what wouldn’t. He asked him normally this time. “Where is Simon’s place?”

“Huh, what’s that?” he apparently didn’t hear him at all. “Where’s Simon’s?” he said aloud and louder. “I’ll show you.” he said. He continued to elaborate about how to get there in the direction of Jamie. But now, it seemed like he couldn’t quite tell him the location.
