This Spells DisasterA Chapter by Stephen CaldwellChapter 82: This Spells Disaster
What did Trevor want now? It was hard to say. The masking of the proceedings at Alex’s didn’t go so well. He had to expose the situation to Peyton and that was not in the plan at hand. Trevor resumed dilly dallying around the house until it grew to be three and four o’clock. He’d gotten plenty of rest, so that wasn’t the issue. He slid over to the end of his bed and relieved himself sexually one time. He was still excited from when he’d gotten it on with Peyton two times. It didn’t mean he couldn’t go to her again, in fact he loathed the thought. But, this time he couldn’t chance it. He needed to get it out of his system. For now, he’d have to compromise by dreaming of different ways of doing it with her. After he was done, he dragged himself to the kitchen and pulled out leftover meatloaf. He didn’t think twice about wolfing it down. Before that he’d rubbed on some deodorant and redressed himself. Trevor knew time was becoming short. He’d have to stop getting bogged down by the outside factors consuming him. Then he got a beep on his phone. It was her, she was desperately raving about where he’d gone off to. He told her he was home and sound. He messaged her swiftly letting her know he appreciated the past spent day and night. It wasn’t until she sent one back until he felt happy. It was basically a sweet text saying how much she liked him. He got giddy, but soon relaxed. There was no reason to get over-precocious. He never knew when something might happen to him. He swarmed the computer and started searching around. All he was seeing were strange things all over social media. It was nothing new. He made up a status about him and Peyton being together today and flocked to the front porch. He slouched and waited for another text from her. It wasn’t coming soon like he’d hoped it would. There the wind blew powerfully at him and grazed through the trees, alarming him abruptly. He stood and ran to the car. Somehow his parents weren’t home on the best day. Though his parents probably knew he was out last night. He found the sun shone brightly on this October afternoon, and he had a new outlook to set him the way forward. He took out another cigarette and lit it. He didn’t have to think about running from anything anymore as long as he had David and Jamie. There was just the others to worry about. It would be hard to get each one to use their own attributes to get a grip on their uses. To be fair that night be what he had to do. Eyes glancing at his phone every fifteen seconds or so. He opened it up to see if there were any other messages he missed. There was one, Jamie. He said he was around Alex, and that he heard all about what happened the former night. He called him immediately and asked what was going on. “I’m here with him and Leena going over some music, also nothing’s been heard from Brittany either.” “Yeah, that’s tragic.” he said sincerely. “You can come…” “I’m coming there now.” Trevor said. “Hah. I was just about to tell you you could.” “Good. I’ll be there soon.” He arrived in thirteen minutes on the dot. Not stopping to yield to a right lane and speeding. Trevor gazed up at the porch in serenity, while the beautiful autumn day commenced. He could hear banging and picking from the downstairs basement. He got a pen and his logbook and went to go see them. There was no way in. Try as he might the door he usually used, which he’d consider more of a side door and opened it. He wouldn’t want to be an intruder, however there was no way they’d be able to hear him. The sound was immense coming from the dwelling below the staircase. He grabbed the door handle and tried to yank it open. Locked. From his side of it, he unhitched the latch and slid the other into an unlocked position. He moved soundly down to the depth of at the opening between the stairwell and the edge of the wall there. He swooped in and saw Jamie playing and Alex. With his drumset attempting to figure out how to design something to play along. He worked his way over to where Leena sat. He accidentally swept his leg over a cable and fell. He sat down with an air of awkwardness spreading inside the room. The place was cramped and stuffy without the outside air gushing in. He slicked his shirt and looked at Leena, sitting there, arms folded and tapping her fingers. Trevor awaited their completion of a song. He braced himself and got up, hovering over Alex unintentionally and climbed out to the center of the room. He stepped to the left because he was giving Jamie his bubble of space and said greetings. Alex hopped up and stretched. “Hey, so what are we doing?” asked Jamie. “I don’t know bro, I’m having a tough time catching all the measures.” “Why’s that?” he asked with an arrogant air about him. “The beginning and the end of some of the measures are very unorthodox. I can’t seem to find the times easily. They are there though.” “Oh.” he said as if he was highly offended. Trevor broke the tension easy as pie with a wave of his hand. “I don’t know about the song, but it’s definitely something outstanding.” He darted his eyes over to the mic jack and amplifier. “What do you say I try out some vocals for the next one.” “Alright, sounds like just what we need.” Jamie said with a surprisingly encouraging tone. It did spark something in him. Trevor reached for the microphone and the switch to the amp power. He wrote five lines and tested them on an introductory piece. He liked it a lot. They spent the next two hours writing the first song, well Trevor did. Jamie was just playing what he’d wrote and rehearsed who knows how many times over and Alex basically had most of it down pat. Then the next four consisted of two more songs. He was having trouble placing all the words. He rushed to do some editing. It got jumbled but he ended up performing it right. There was not mistake in his execution. He pushed on several more times in the course until dusk started to loom over the earth. Trevor took the time to sharpen the editing briskly and got it all. Leena had gone outside for long periods of time and probably messed around on her version of the smart phone. Trevor rarely used his but to text Peyton and he liked the OS and the features on it. They all three went outside and gathered up on the table surrounding her. It must’ve been constructed along with the rest of the deck since the last time he was there. Impressive actually. He looked out at the tree line, forcing himself to glance up at the dim lit sky like he was waiting for an answer. He wrought his shirt, covered in sweat as it clung to his body. Loosening his pants that rode up around his waist. He smacked some dust off them and wriggled around because the energy was high and adrenaline rushing. The thrill of his succession was coursing through his veins. He moved to the other side of Jamie and talked to Alex. “What’re we going to do about Brittany?” he asked. “What’ll I do? What’re you gonna do?” he questioned. “We all should get her back. I’ll be searched for any leads possible.” “If you say so, man.” He said with a kind of mild frown. He pushed off the table and strut around the boards with deep concentration. “So, this hooded evil man took Brittany and gave me some sort of mind powers, which reminds me, how is that supposed to work?” “Uhm, I don’t know is that what happened?” Jamie spoke aloud. Trevor spun around in anguish. “Hold on, I…” he thought. “You what?” That moment he distinguished, Jamie must’ve noticed his lips weren’t moving. “Wait, you’re truly…” “I guess so.” Trevor said. “Although I have no idea how to control it.” “Control what….”said Leena. There had to be some sort of filter on it, or Trevor just wasn’t that powerful. “I heard you.” said Alex, puffing on a cigarette. He flicked it and put it out on one of the boards. Somehow the butt disappeared from his sight. “Anyway, I can transmit to other people’s minds seemingly and I’m not aware of how far, how much and to whom.” “Can you now?” said Leena. “S**t. I forgot she doesn’t know.” “Well regardless, I don’t have time for this, it’s better you know now.” he said to Leena. “Where do you think some unknown guy would take Brittany?” “I have no earthly idea. But, if I can track her using these new abilities or get to her by chance then we’d certainly have a shot.” He looked at them with a pressing expression in question. “Yeah, we shall get together to help find her.” they replied. “Excellent. Now, Leena, forget you ever heard any of this.” “Okay, gotcha… but, what is going on?” “As far as I know there’s only one more baddy, or should I say enemy left, and there’s the one who has Brittany, and he’s a feisty son of a b***h too.” “What’re you saying?” “That we have to destroy him, or both of them. I’m telling you this in confidence.” he explained. “That’s… wow.. That’s heavy.” “Indeed, he’s an invisible. Well, at least for now, fly guy who drops lightning from the atmosphere.” “You don’t say…” said Alex. “Sounds like that… that norse god from the superhero series.” “Maybe, but really he’s a rogue angel and I don’t know what to do if he tries to kill me and stop what I’m trying to do.” “What are you trying to do?” Jamie asked. “I… actually haven’t found that part out yet. I have to collect some more intel on that.” “Intel, you say?” “I’m sure it’s something like shutting down something that hasn’t been and won’t until I do something about it. Possibly some kind of dual-world breach or the likes that is going to extinguish humanity.” “Oh, well then. I might have to agree then, huh?” “You betcha.” Trevor said. A little unsure of himself at that. He reached in his pants and got his phone. Seven fifty-three. “Okay, how about this? I get out of here and look for leads and you guys go do whatever it is you do until I call you. Which might not even be tonight.” “Right.” The two said in unison. Trevor broke the group and got in his car. Tumbling down the back roads to get close to Alex’s. He had a feeling that if he was going to find anything anywhere it would be there.
