Chapter 80: My Pinion

However you looked at it, he was getting in deep. The load wasn’t pursing his tasks as they came to fruition. It was garnering the total embodiment of this nightmare that was excessively crushing his knack for doing so, or overall being instructed of what that was. He was up and about with Alex not three and a half hours after going to sleep with Peyton again. He felt frayed and succumbed to the depth of his newly chastened brain stem. He ran out to see if there were any signs that the transfer had even happened. He didn’t see any evidence or withered grass where he’d lain temporarily. Trevor sat at the dining table and ate an English muffin with butter and a few dishes also. He didn’t find it necessary to go wake up Peyton and neither did Alex to the rest of them. He pushed his plate aside and asked what he was wanting to do today. “Most likely lay around and be lazy, watching the television until I have to take them home.”

“Gotcha. I’m sure Peyton will want to go back home too sometime.” he said. “Mhmm.” he said munching on a muffin. “This was pretty sweet.”

“I agree.” It was kind of phenomenal getting to crash the night with a lady friend and his friend and one of his. He couldn’t help but be blazing with rich influence this day, after the night he’d had. Lately it’d been grim every time he rose from sleep and forecasts unfairing. He didn’t know what else to do besides keep going the way things were. But, with developments coming in escalation, he couldn’t see any reason not to be optimistic. Right now, Alex was cleaning up in the kitchen and elsewhere. He did his best to stay out of his way while he bunched up empty bags of junk food and brushed dishes to a shine. He summed that Peyton would wake in the light of the sun coming through the window in the cold October day. Trevor was shivering himself and she wasn’t covered by anything. Though she had put the majority of her clothes back on.

Brittany had a funny look on her face while she was lying there resting. He snickered and walked back into where Alex was doing clean-up duty. “Let’s go out for a smoke, huh man?”

“Yeah, sounds good.” he concurred. The sun was vacant and not in visibility but flourished in the environment that was close by. Probably covered by a thin-layer of clouds and an average covering below. All of a sudden it started raining. A blanket of precipitation, though not heavy, as if magically. “How did last night go?” he asked. “Ah, for one I managed to lose my virginity.”

“Oh really?” he smirked. “How was that?” his smile widened. “It was nice. It was lovely and sagacious.”

“I’m really not sure what that word means right now, bro. Did you just say sagayshuss?”

“Yeah, something like that. It was positively a good choice doing it with her and not anybody else.”

“Oh, I see what you mean.” he replied. “Now then, down to business.”

“What’s that?” he asked him. “I want to talk about this power business. Why can’t I seem to indite mine?”

“Did you just use the word indite? Is that even the proper use of that?”

“I don’t know, but you know what I mean.” he said. “I do, yes. Whatever the problem is lies within your ability to treat it like a manifestation of what it is. What your powers are will greatly depend on your mentality to use it.”

“How would you gather I make myself think or feel that way?”

“I would gauge that you make sure you know what you have to do and then it might just come out of you. Though, if you want complete control you have to have it down pat first.”

“I see.” he said skeptically. “I know it’s all very farfetched but once you do, you won’t have to ever worry about taking that first step again.”

“Sounds pretty worthwhile.”

“I’d say so. You never know when you’re gonna need something like self-defense.”

“Of course, that’s something I’ve always known.” he responded. “Well, here’s your chance.” Trevor told him.

“You really think so?” he asked. “I certainly do.”

With that they made back inside for coffee and morning wake up. His friend waited for a duration of minutes while they sipped mugs and made small talk. Mostly about music, he had a lot to say. Trevor did not. Leena walked in the room a point later. She was attractive too, maybe as much as Peyton. So was Brittany, though she wouldn’t come out of her slumber. Neither would his girl. Trevor hastened his pace around her. He needed to wake Peyton and he probably should allow her to say good morning to her host at hand, or at the least himself. He pondered if they’d participated in similar indulgences as he had during the course of the night. He concluded it was unseemly to care. He broke his lady friend’s hold of sleep with a swipe of her hair on her brow.

“Uh, hey, hey babe.” Trevor was potentially mindful. He wasn’t used to this, but he grabbed her shoulder and didn’t discard her label. “Hi... Hi.. Baby. Glad you’re awake.” he said. “Yeah, uhm, could you get me some water.”

“I will, but you have to get up first.” he told her. “Hrnggg…”

She made unidentifiable groaning noises while retracting from his touch. “Well, this is going to be a walk in the park.” he internalized sarcastically. “Right.” He went to fetch some water. Back in the kitchen it was abnormally quiet. He took a look over his shoulder and saw Alex stepping out and fiddling with the A/C box. Something didn’t feel right. He ignored this and got the glass of water and gave it to her. He looked over to where Brittany was, she wasn’t lying there anymore. “Where did she go?”

“Hey, Peyton. Where did she go?” he was shaking her modestly. “Wh… what is it, baby?” he said. “Did you see where Brittany went?”

“Who?” she asked. “Brittany. She’d been in here with us all night on the other couch.”

“Are you serious!? There was someone else in here?” she asked. “Yeah… I thought you knew that.” He looked at her pontificated. “Shut up. I didn’t know.” she said. With a  pout. “Mhmmm.. Sorry, I swear something is up here.” He speculated. “What do you think is?” she asked. “I don’t know, but I’m going to find out or get out of here. You should be ready.” he told her raring. “Okay, I’ll get dressed.” She started picking up her things along with her jeans and handbag. “Would you just say goodbye or leave without saying a word?” she asked politely which was queer. “Maybe, you probably think I’m nuts.”

“I don’t think so. Go with what your instincts tell you.” she told him.. “Yes, I was planning on that. Thank you.” He said shyly. “She kind-of mummed unsurely. He moved back to where his door was. The closed. He’d never been in there before, but he had no qualms with gently rapping on it anyway. Trevor stood juxtaposed to the doorway and waited for it to be opened. His friend stood there in his night clothes, which was odd since he’d had his jeans on earlier. He looked disheveled and flustered. “Have you seen Brittany? I don’t know where she could’ve taken off to.” he told him.. “Oh, I don’t know. I haven’t seen her up yet.” he answered.

“What do you think she would do after she got up?” he asked him. “Probably go to the bathroom. Though I doubt she’s in there.”

“Hmm…” he looked away at the open door to the bathroom with the lights off. “Don’t worry. I’ll try to find her.” he assured. He went back in the living room and found Peyton scrolling through her phone alone. He pushed the fan off and shuttled out to the back door, which was wide glass covered by blinds. He raised one and peered out into the back yard, seeing their companion nestled between a cove of trees, waddling along far enough that he’d no inkling of where she could be going to. He whipped around and marred back to where Peyton was. “Hold on, Stay right here, I found her.” he said in a pinch. “What? Forreal?” she asked astonished. “Wait! Where are you gonna go?” Too late. He rushed to the back door and ripping it open, clearing through and running full-breadth to the clearing where she continued to hobble away. He took one look at her as soon as he caught up. Dark hair that glimmered in the early sunshine and a trancelike expression on her face.

“Brittany! What are you doing? Brittany…” No response. She kept trying to make it out to the outer portion where the woods thickened. He followed her a couple dozen paces and watched her hop on a log that was in her path. She lurched forward and took off running in her own graceful yet not built for speed apparently, Trevor caught her in a matter of seconds and yanked her back to keep her from tripping over many pieces of brush and wild thorn.

He couldn’t see anything wrong with her except her face was pale and her hair was a mess of tangled, knotty strands falling over her face. He couldn’t seem to smooth it out of the way. She had this ravacious look in her eyes like the real her wasn’t truly there and she still was trying formidably to get somewhere. He trusted his hold on her and made a grip around her waist and pressed her spinal column to makeshift a stationary position ready for motion. He couldn’t get her to budge, but she wasn’t trying to haul-off into the woods again. He tried to push her backwards and get her heading back toward the house. It wasn’t working very well.

“Aye slick, where do you think you’re going with that. You’ve got something I want over there.” A voice came out of the trees shouting. He glared around. Nothing. He looked again, drawing his vision to a certain tree standing there. It was the hooded creep from before. He was nearly unnoticeable blending in with the treeline in his cloak of the same color tone. “Oh, it’s you. What are you looking for again?” Trevor stabbed. “That one there, I was trying to get her to come with me.”

“Why do you think she would do something like that?” he asked snide. “Simple. I would manipulate her until I got her out of the woodwork and take her… well, to a place you don’t know.”

“Really now? I think I might have some objection to that.” he told it. “How do you think you can stop me?” it asked. “Oh, I think I can. So how’s it going to be?” he asked. “Just like that.”

“Okay. Deal. It’s on.” Trevor thrust at him expeditiously and vividly. He could see the person shift and divide into an antiquated cloud and fade completely. Trevor didn’t even see it coming. To think he would escape instead of fight. The girl looked distraught. She was crumbling and fell to her knees on the forest floor. Birds flocked outward in the canopy overhead. He chucked his shirt off and bound her wrists up like a pair of handcuffs. He picked her up and led her along autocratically. She seemed to be regaining some functionality. She was moving much too slow, but he had to bear with it. She looked like a lost dog on a leash as he pulled her all the way back to the back landing. He couldn’t have prepared for such an awful scene. He left her in one of the high-end looking table chairs set back there. He hurried back inside to get Peyton and survey the rest of the people in the household. She wasn’t in the living room. “Oh no!” he said lowly.  He busted out the front door and frantically punched out into the front driveway. He couldn’t spot anything unusual, there was a single shriek from afar and he trudged his way back around the house from the outside. “Where did that come from?” He tossed around the corner and looked over to see Brittany sitting there in a stupor. Right then, he could hear muffled shouts ranging from behind him and far off. His ears could not seem to adjust to where the sounds were transpiring. He went to hang over Brittany and took one look at her. She beset a groggy look of inability at the moment. “Where is Peyton?” he wondered. “Are you looking for this?” He reeled around and found her wrenching in the figure’s arms. “How did you get to her?” he asked boldly. “I simply went in and got her.” It said. “Alright. Well, how do I get her away from you?” he asked pissed off. She looked scared stiff, her eyes bulging out of her skull as his arm wrapped over her mouth, clamped tight. “Considering I don’t want this one, and since I’m such a nice guy, I’ll trade you.” he said. “and then what? You know I can’t just…” Too late, he’d already teleported, snatched up Brittany and poofed into oblivion. Trevor couldn’t believe how fast he was. Peyton looked deplorable, though not as frightened as he would’ve though. He brought her up to his chest and walked her back inside. He sat her down on the couch and consoled her for the time. He shuddered and coddled her close to him until he heard rustling in the back room. Alex broke out in a hurry. He hardly perceived how fast he came flying around the hallway. He caressed Peyton like it was the last time he’d ever see her. For once, he didn’t feel afraid, “Hey, how’s it going dude.” He looked at Trevor like he was almost jealous of the way they looked together. Peyton and he.

“Hey bro, are you doing alright? You’re not mad at me are you?”

“No, but I am angry and a little shaken up.”

“Whoa… whoa, hold up. What for?”

“This egomaniac, uh.. If I had to say probably a demonic entity.” he said. “Wait what?” he looked at him an order of secrecy. “What are you saying? What did he do?”

“He took Brittany, bro.” Trevor couldn’t believe he was saying the word bro, but it appeared to be custom around here. “Hold on. What!?” he screamed. He shook a bit. He didn’t seem to be able to comprehend what he was telling him. “Ah, I can’t have chicks disappearing from my house what the f**k.” He looked like he couldn’t bear with what he was being scrutinized to. “He took her.” Trevor said monotone. “Also, I don’t negotiate. With anyone. Unless rare circumstances take hold.”

“Would this be one of those times?”

“No it wouldn’t. Though I may run into him again, if all goes well. I happened to strike a deal with him last night. I haven’t tested his end yet. But, I’m positive he made good on it.”

“Wha… what do you mean?”

“That I gained more power last night.”

“What kind of power?” he asked. “Something having to do with mind insurgence. I can enter other people’s minds. Though not for a lack of nescience. I can’t transmit them omnipotently. Only let it out and be received.”

“I don’t know what the f**k you just said but that’s crazy. This is crazy.”

“You’re telling me. I wanted to transfer the power to someone else. I only took on the skill because the opportunity arose.”

            “So you’re saying…”

“If I wanted to put information in your brain right now I could, and you could process it however you felt suitable.”

“Okay…” he said with unsurety. “I’m still going to try to pass it off if I can.”

            “How?”

“Right. Are there any other advantages to this?”

“Just that I can distract enemies.” he said. “Oh, sounds useful.”

“That’s what I said.” he told him.. “haha. But, really this isn’t good.”

“I know. What do we do?”

“We? I don’t know how to do anything as of now.” he said. Trevor already knew that, it hadn’t entered his mind at the moment though. “Let’s take some time to decipher this later.”
