Chapter 40: The Unlock to the Unlocked Lock

Both traveled to Trevor’s front door. It was approaching one. One hour after midnight. Trevor stated that David should wait. So he did. Trevor brought them out, not knowing which was which. They had a conglomeration about it right there on the walkway. It was a sight to behold. Trevor looked silly pointing out the simple symbols on each of them. Right away, David could see all for what they were. Beholding them. But, Trevor insisted his own will to revere them. He told David of this and agreed he would acknowledge. “Right then.” Trevor boldly stated.

“What do you want to know?” he asked him straight-forwardly. “Which is mine?”            “MINE is the equilateral cross. Good question though.”

Trevor said putting it on. This was the first he’d ever done so. Trevor awaited him to speak. His friend seemed to act like nothing had happened. “You know what? We should get back up to your driveway.” Trevor told him. He seemed to snap back into cognition. “Wait! I gotta find which is mine.” Trevor knew he was right. He didn’t want the rest of them leaving the premises of his house now. “Which do you think it is?” he asked of him. Trevor perused them and what their significances could be. It didn’t take much time to decipher, the likely candidate at least. The crest looking shape. Not a bad match for David’s ideal structure, rather, his presider’s. But, also the way about him that he had. Not too quick to jump to a decision. “This one? What do you think?” He handed it to him.

“I would think so! I’ll give it a try.”

“Nice.” There was no time to spare. Dashing back inside to put the remainder away, “Right-o” Trevor said as he slipped back outside. David clasp the amulet in his left hand as they walked quietly through the blackness of tonight. Not once looking back to Trevor’s home in the distance. Sharing no talks or quips on the way, not about how this wasn’t something a high school junior and a newly graduate does with the beginning of their summer.

No. They stepped, one-foot-at-a-time back to where essentially he’d just come to play on his team. Trevor had something… someone in his favor now. Well, not now. They reached the topside of his driveway under a blanket of shadows. David still grasped the amulet firmly. “Go for it.” Trevor said. “Put it on.”

“Okay.” He said respectively. He looked amazed as he brought it up and over his head, resting it on his collar bones gently. No signification that it’d done something. Though Trevor’s did not as well, “Now what?” David said looking jostled. “I guess we try, or I.”

            “Huh?”

            “Or I do.” Trevor said.
