Chapter 14: The Unserious

Unsure if he wanted to be excited or continue on the way things were, Trevor pondered around the back porch with David. “So what should we do?”

“Were just going to sit here for now.”

“Last I checked we were standing.” He laughed. Trev chuckled too. “We can’t go anywhere right now.”

“Says who?” said Trevor. “True, I might know a way.”

“No, I’ll drive. If we need to.”

“Oh…” he muttered. “Anyway, where are we going?”

“I was thinking of calling Jamie.” He stated. “Who is that? Is that a chick?”

“No, that’s a guy.” Trevor told him. “Oh, is he cool?”

“I guess so… anyway… let me see what I can do.”

So Trevor started clicking away on his phone. He’d gotten a cooler full of beers and David was drinking some. Though Trevor was dormant in his drinking as of now, he had the urge to call it a beverage crate. He kind of giggled inside. “What’re you in such a hurry for?” he asked. David had at least four by now and was starting to act funny. They started to bore the contents of the container and started drinking some. Trevor just didn’t care for the time being. There was nothing to tell him where to go right now and it didn’t in the least worry him. He had time. “What is it this time?” David asked. He could presumably see that Trevor looked impassive within his mind. “I want to show you something.” he told him.. “What?”

“I want to see if this works…” Trevor left to go inside and snatched the amulets from inside the house. “What’re you talking about?” he inquired on his return. “We’ll see what happens. Trevor placed them out in front of him and picked one up. He set it back down almost as soon as he had it. He looked at them and ushered for to show them to David. “What’re those?”

“Something Don gave me.” he said back sternly.

“Who? Oh! You mean that guy from the one night?”

“Yeah.” Trevor again said with mono-toned directive. He was wondering whether he should try to incite a reaction. He pressed down gently on the organized array of them. They lit up as his hand did. Not in any distinct way, sort-of a milky-white off of the inscriptions. He wasn’t sure if it’d do anything at all. Within a few seconds the set glew intensively, as if they were about to blow-up in his face. As they did, a beam shot to the sky and they themselves burst with effulgence into a blinding deluge that consumed the area. So brightly, that Trevor didn’t feel like he was anywhere at all. In a usurp of whatever was coming forth from it, it dulled and cut-off from the skyward ray breaking off into wayward directions. “Hey… what the f**k..” Trevor knew he heard his friend say. “I don’t… I thought it would…” was all he could muster. Trev was awestruck. “Hand me another beer.” he chattered while pretty much in shambles. David seemed stupefied as well. He proceeded. Trevor in horror thinking, “Somebody must’ve seen that.” He remained silent. Apparently, neither could find themselves to break the tension, a sign of affinity while waiting for a sensation of clarity. In an avid sense, the uncertainty of this sensibility was causing irrational recoil. For all he knew, nothing had gone wrong. For there was no relapse and the absence of sound allowed repose. In his thoughts he had lost his handle on things, to figure out how to get that back could be his purpose.
