You Are My Drug...

You Are My Drug...

A Poem by K. Barrios

Realizing you were my drug,
I had to let you go.
Because once you taste Heroin,
You can never get enough.

Ooh...WOW. K, I'm a big fan of, how do you put it, "a lot of power in few words." This poem definitely qualifies! "...once you taste Heroin/You can never get enough."

I hate to assume, but my first impression is that it's about a person (a girl, perhaps?). Of course, the reader might take it any sort of way. I also really like how rhythmic the poem is; it has a very tight structure, almost like a haiku.

And in a way, I can relate to the theme of this, too. I've been in both some very destructive relationships, and also have been dependent on substances at one time or another. So the poem has meaning on several different levels.

I'm so glad that you wrote this, and I'm sure that many other readers will appreciate it too!
