Questions of Modern Faith

Questions of Modern Faith

A Poem by Ephialtes Jones

Facades that grimace, yet, entice
Like beautiful green waves who drown
Remnants of Sodom’s ignorance;
Demon’s endowed with childish grins.
Lambs with Lion instinct intact,
Hunger coexists with thin faith.

Servants, which master will you serve?
Flesh and soul are tightly braided .
Wiley sin enters lazily,
As, into water, blood slithers.
How can we praise Heaven’s glory
When city lights outshine the stars?

Can Truth exist when liars reign?
Can lonely souls maintain themselves?
“Ye vipers brood!” You "friend[s] of God!”
Distinction fails serpent and saint.
Squirm and shine, entwined by the Light
That, in the End, will divide you.

yes, it seems like a real tug-of-war, saints and sinners, up and down, Mara Mara all around, never getting off the ground, always at the lost and found, but the argument seems to fade as that hormonally soaked soul begins to dry itself off and shake its wily locks and laughs at itself wondering at all those quarters spent on all those rides...

A great write full of thought provoking statements about the struggle one faces to keep the faith but in so strongly pointing out the negatives, it only serves to highlight the positives that life has to offer. It's like being told you can't have something, it only makes one want it more!!
Favourite line, 'Wiley sin enters lazily, as, into water, blood slithers'. Wow, that image is so powerful and I can see a whole book, right there in that statement. Excellent start to may day, thank you...

Amen. This is a powerful, thought provoking piece...my favorite line by far:

"How can we praise Heaven's glory
When city lights outshine the stars?"

I couldn't have said it better myself. Well done!
